Yo Work Fun Nation
As I read through the heartfelt replies to yesterday’s email on "How to live with purpose," I was struck by the raw honesty and vulnerability shared.
Sobrang touching. Salamat sa trust, guys.
In a world that often seems to value achievement and success above all else, it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters.
We get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, chasing the cash, chasing clients, and chasing after things that aren’t aligned with who we really are, and what we truly want.
But the truth is, and I believe this now, we all have a unique purpose in this life.
It's the spark that ignites our flame, the reason we get out of bed in the morning. Cliche na kung cliche.
It's the thing that gives our lives meaning and direction.
And based on your replies, for some of you, purpose is found in spending time with loved ones and family.
For others, it's found in making a difference in the world, in helping others in need, in spreading the mission, in congregation and ministry, and in volunteering time for your community.
And for others still, it's found in simply being present in the moment.
Pero no matter what your purpose is, it's important to remember that it's not something that's just given to you.
Hindi sya naka-assign basta-basta.
You also just can’t inherit it, or have it passed down na lang bigla.
It's something you discover for yourself.
It's the quiet voice inside you that whispers,
"This is what I'm meant to do. This is WHO I am."
It's the feeling of fulfillment you get when you're doing something that aligns with your values and beliefs.
I was trying to find a single word for this, but the Japanese had thought of it centuries ago na pala, and they couldn’t have said it better.
It's the sense of 貢献 (kouken) - contribution - that comes from using your gifts and talents to make the world a better place.
So if you're feeling lost or unsure of your purpose, ..
Don't worry.
It takes time and effort to find what truly matters to you.
Here are a few things you can do to start your journey of self-discovery:
- Reflect on your values. What's important to you? What do you believe in?
- Think about the things that make you happy. What activities do you enjoy? What causes do you care about?
- Pay attention to the people you admire. What qualities do they possess that you find inspiring?
- Be open to new experiences. Try new things and step outside of your comfort zone.
- Listen to your intuition. What does your gut tell you?
The most important thing is to never give up on your search for purpose. It's the journey that matters, not the destination. (What is it with me and cliches today?)
So keep exploring, keep learning, and keep growing.
And when you find your purpose, let it ignite your flame and set the world on fire.
Purposefully yours,
Shoden “Freelancer Igniter” San
