Napabili ako ng emergency Macbook

Hi there!

#gratitude #Macbook

I’d never thought these words would come out of my own mouth, but just the other day napabili ako ng emergency macbook na parang nautusan lang bumili ng suka. hehe

Just like that. No preamble. (See photo)

Dumaan ako sa mall on the way to meet and pick up some footage from of my editors, and this was for a project that was due in less than 2 days.

Sabi ko kay kuya at the Genius Bar after arriving then pointing at one of the Macbook Air units sa counter:

“Sir pabili nga isa nito at yung carrying bag. Atsaka yung multi-hub na din. Need ko maka-alis in 10 minutes”

Siguro kasi most people go to the store and just look, or visit muna several times to try to talk themselves out of buying it.

Or even if they eventually buy it, inaamoy amoy pa nila packaging and sinusulit yung unboxing.

Judging by the look on his face though, bihira siguro sya makakita ng taong dumereto sa counter at bumili lang in less than 10 minutes.

Now, could it be na impulsive lang ako and I’m an idiot for taking such sa big choice so lightly?

Yes, pwede hehe.

Could it be din na mayabang lang ako and I wanted to impress you by writing this?

Haha, onga naman. I know right. Mayabang pa naman ako.

I mean, hindi naman sya ganon kalaking amount.

Heck, many other tribemates post their wins of buying whole houses and cars, and even islands with their freelancing income.

I guess that’s beside the point.

You see, not so long ago hindi kasi ako ganito mag-isip.

I guess ang gusto ko i-share and maalala yung moment na to where I let go of an old belief.

I don’t know why, pero I was so against the idea of buying Macs over PCs.

I loved to hate on Macs kumbaga.

Most likely kasi wala akong pambili, but syempre I didn’t tell myself that haha.

Every time I saw someone using a MacBook at a coffee shop, ewan ko ba kung bakit na-aannoy ako.

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes and think: “loko to a.”

Hahaha, wala naman kasalanan yung tao.

He was just there to get coffee.

Most likely kasi wala pa din akong pambili, but syempre I didn’t tell myself that pa din haha.

One day though, I “accidentally” won an ipad through a PisoBid site. (It was a thing back when Groupon was still cool)

Aangal pa ba ako, libre na nga e. (See exhibit uli. Yes, 10 years apart yung photo, may jawline pa ako nyan. hehehuhu)

So eto na nga, I was griping about the price because of reasons I invented lang pala.

I began to see why people buy these things kahit mahal o overpriced sya:

Mas marami silang value na nakukuha out of it, (perceived or not) rather than just the peso amount attached.

I begin to find out na hindi lang pala lagi sa pag-titipid tayo makakakuha ng value.

It’s not only about cost-effectiveness or sheer performance; it’s also about usability and frequency too— the more times you actually use your “expensive” devices to make you even more income, the more cost-effective your item actually becomes.

By looking at an object beyond its monetary worth… by understanding its utility in everyday life and its use as an income generating tool…

E hindi na pala ganon kamahal yung Macs.

Pero Shods, you can easily achieve the same things using any plain ol’ notebook or laptop! Onga naman, pero.. aminin natin, ang lakas maka-mayaman ng design ng Macs ha. May dating talaga mga naka-Mac, to the point na cliche na.

Let’s do a bit of Math

A high-end Macbook can cost 353 pesos per day, if you want to own it within a year.

Sa Freelance Movement naman, it’s only 34 pesos per day to be a member for a whole year na.

Lalo na pag-inaraw araw mo.

Pero if you leave it alone without using it, lugi ka lang kasi nasayang na pera mo, pati pa oras mo.

Like my persistent limiting belief, parang sa tribe membership dini yan.

At first many peope complain na bakit daw ganito price, at bakit annual sya na membership, bakit di na lang one-time payment.

Pero as you begin to use it every day, sobrang mura pala nya.

So yun, in the end..

I’m probably using you as an excuse to help me justify the expense hahaha. Super grateful pa din ako sa mga nangyari that led me to believe what I do now.

Pero, I’m not totally cured pa din sa mga limiting beliefs ko you know.

Tao lang din hehe.

So this finally brings me back to the moral of the story.. wag pumasok sa Mac store kung balak mo lang sana mag window shop.

Gedemet hahaha
