The Results are in!

Hey there, friends!

I’ve got the results of the short Bible Reading Survey that I asked you to take. If you didn’t get a chance to take it and would like to give your feedback the poll is still live here: https://forms.gle/kix2xvaKtdj7bXE7A

Instead of boring you with the numbers and the most popular answers, I decided I would spend the time explaining the Bible Reading Plan that we will be going with.

Most of you said that you are okay with 4 chapters of Bible reading, so that will be the plan. There will be certain days where you will be asked to read an extra chapter, but other days you will read less. The only exception is Psalms. In the Psalms we will be reading several chapters at a time, but they are very short chapters. The Bottom line is that all the readings can be done in roughly 15 minutes if you use an Audio Bible to keep pace. (Let me know if you would like some help with audio bibles) We will read five days per week, with two “grace days” to catch up, take a break, or read other material.

The vote was split pretty evenly across reading the whole bible no matter how long it takes and building a reading habit that sticks. With that in mind, I’ve decided to go with the 4 chapters per day five days per week. If you have tried to read the Bible before, you know that it usually takes reading 4-5 chapters per day 7 days per week. We have decided to compromise a little bit. We will read roughly 87% of the Bible. If that isn’t what you signed up for and you want to read the entire Bible, the good news is reading 2 chapters per day on the weekends will get you through the whole Bible in one year. I can send you a list of chapters that are not included if you want to do this.

That begs the question, what was left out? The only book that was completely left out was Song of Songs (or Song of Solomon). We will be doing an overview ofLeviticus, Numbers, Job, 1-2 Kings, and 1-2 Chronicles. These will be condensed reading with chapters I’ve handpicked to get you the story without getting lost in genealogies and lists.

Summary:

5 reading days per week

2 Grace Days

4 Chapters per day (on average)

15 Minutes of reading per day (based on average audio Bible speed at 1.5x)

Goes through 87% of the Bible with an option to read 13% on the weekends

When do we start?

I will be sending out the first email with the Bible reading plan on Monday, January 2nd. Expect an email every Monday morning for the year.

What should I expect?

Expect tips, tools, and insights from my readings and scholars to help you understand the Bible better. I will be trying to anticipate some of the questions you may have as you read.

If you have a question, send an email back to me and I will do my best to answer it.

I will also be letting you know any books or videos that are helpful. As well as letting you know what I’m working on for you all and what I’m reading/doing throughout the week. This will be a small section, I promise!

Let’s do this

I’m so excited to get started with you all. We are in this together! I’ll be with you every step of the way. You may get discouraged from time to time, but keep going. If you need help, just ask! I’m doing this because I want to help you. This goes beyond a simple weekly newsletter. If you need strategies or advice, I’m happy to help!

2023 is the year we turn around and get serious about following Jesus. You got this.
