I had a laugh this week. One of my readers told me she spent so much on books that her spouse stepped in, issuing her with Amazon gift cards that she was not allowed to outspend! I told her we need more readers like that! I chuckle to think a person can be such a bookworm that an intervention's needed to protect the household budget!
Anyway, greetings from this topsy turvy land of fiasco in the UK. (As I recall, the origin of the word "fiasco" is Italian; it describes a basket used to hold wine bottles so badly constructed that they wouldn't stand up on their own!) I've lost count of how many lockdowns have been imposed by now and how many months I've been kept out of the swimming pool!
And the situation is worse for many, with unprecedented levels of depression, suicide, and domestic abuse, while wiping out a generation of athletes in this relatively small nation that achieved second place in gold-medal rankings in the last Olympics. It could be decades before Britain attains such heights again!
I blame not Covid for this, but the heavy-handed, overreactive, unimaginative, and unnuanced responses of governments. Choosing fear over love, they remain stubbornly blind to the deeper messages that the virus is here to bring, and they are doing so much more harm than good. But they will be overthrown in the end.
