Hello
Did you know that Spring starts in a month?
I bet that brought a nice dollop of cheer into your lockdown.
Days are getting a bit longer.
And isn't it great to see the buds forming on the tree branches?
What are the signs of Spring in your garden?
Elon Musk's Dose of Optimism
This past week, I listened to a podcast of Joe Rogan interviewing Elon Musk.
It's about 3 hours long. 😮 But it's certainly worth a listen. 👊
It's the perfect antidote to pessimism.
In the past, I've avoided Joe Rogan - because every time I've heard him, his language has been full of expletives.
But either he's mellowed. Or Elon delivered so much value that Joe didn't have time to think of many swearwords.
Whatever... this is an amazing podcast - with stuff like...
- The reality of passenger space travel and Elon's vision of human settlements on Mars.
- Why there's a Tesla floating in space.
- How they went so overboard with the Tesla air filtering that you could perform surgery in the car whilst driving through a dust storm.
- What Elon is doing about climate change.
I didn't realise how smart Elon Musk is. His knowledge is phenomenal.
The podcast is only available on Spotify, unfortunately. But you can get a free Spotify account and listen to the occasional ad.
When Mathematics Makes a Bridge Start to Swing
I'm reading a few books right now, one of which is:
Humble Pi: A Comedy of Maths Errors.
It sounds like a complex book, but it isn't.
It's written so well that it's entertaining and easy to read.
I discovered why the Millenium Bridge began to swing sideways when it opened.
It's because of resonance - which the planners hadn't anticipated.
And why it's impossible to make a football like you see on UK road signs.

It's all to do with hexagons and pentagons.
Guess what the Department of Transport said when the author told them. I bet you can.
I A-Door Humour
When one door closes, another door opens.
Other than that, it's a pretty good car.
🤣
That's it for this week. I'm off to write a new blog post. So I'll share that next week.
Thanks to everyone who replied to last week's email and told me what made your day.
It really made my day.
Hope you have a great week.
David
