When we moved an 8ft greenhouse through a 5ft gap

Isn't it great to have good neighbours!

For many years, we've had a nice small cosy greenhouse in our garden.

A few weeks ago, some neighbours decided to replace their large greenhouse with a summerhouse.

And asked if we'd like it.

Or more accurately, they asked my wife if she'd like it.

Being green-fingered, and trying to cram too many tomato plants into our tiny greenhouse last year, my wife jumped at the chance.

Problem is, how do you carry an 8ft x 6ft greenhouse with glass windows from one garden to another?

Fortunately, Keith, its former owner, removed all the glass to make it lighter, and several guys in the grove volunteered to help.

So we proceeded to carry it - socially distanced, of course - down the passageway between the houses.

That's when we realised the passageway was too narrow to remove it from the garden.

Yep. 6ft wide greenhouse. 5ft wide passage.

Oops!

But someone came up with a cunning plan.

So... over 6ft fences, through other neighbours' passageways, across the grove... and eventually it arrived in our garden.

Then came the back-breaking work of digging up part of the lawn and laying some paving slabs.

Don't look, cos you'll be able to tell I'll never pass the pavier exams.

We gave our old greenhouse to another neighbour.

Can you believe it took just three of us to easily carry that frame, complete with plastic glazing.

We've bought some special greenhouse putty on a roll. So the next job is to re-glaze our new greenhouse.

Roll on summer.

On the subject of flowers...

The other day, my wife asked me why I never buy her flowers.

I apologised, then I told her that I didn't realise she sold them.
