Taking time off

Hey

As you're reading this, I am in Scotland doing the NC500 route on the motorbike. Going there this week was a spur of the moment decision - unusual for a planner like me.

Anyway, I'm not sharing this with you to brag, but to stress the importance of taking time off as a business owner. I used to be very good at doing so as an employee, but since I started The Savvy Corner I have found it difficult to switch off. Especially in the beginning. I wrote about my experience in a Medium article that you can read here if you haven't had a chance to already.

2020 hit me like a ton of bricks. I realised how important our health is and how easily we can lose it. And I'm not only talking about our physical health, but our mental one too. Taking breaks is a necessity, not a luxury. It also comes with the added bonus of boosting our productivity and creativity.

It was a bit tricky to take time off until now because we were all house-bound and therefore the temptation to open the laptop and see "what's going on" was huge - for me at least. But now that some restrictions have lifted, we slowly start to remember what it's like to take time off and actually go somewhere. Oh, how much I've missed this!

I've scheduled some posts to go on social media while I'm away (which I'll share with you on Friday), but other than that I won't be doing any work.

When was the last time you took time off? If, like I used to, you're worried your business will stop while you take a break I can reassure you that it will still be there when you come back. With a bit of preparation and some clear boundaries in place, you can make your business work around you, not the other way around. Maybe I'll create a video on this topic - stay tuned if it's of interest.

Take care, take it easy and we'll speak again on Friday.

Alisa
