Small numbers, huge win

Hi
Yesterday I got an email from Stripe with the subject line 'Your funds are on the way' - my favourite subject line. I opened it and this is what it said
You might be wondering what on Earth am I selling for £3.36. Fair question.
The £3.36 (or $3.91) represents my earnings on Medium for the month of October. Granted, not a lot of money, but nevertheless a huge win. Why? I'm glad you asked, .
Let me add some context to this. I am VERY new to Medium. I only have a handful of stories published and around 40 followers. In October I published 2 stories, but 5 out my 6 stories earned me money that month. I can only sum that up in two words: passive income.
The stories I write on Medium are articles I would have shared for free either on LinkedIn or on other platforms. The difference with writing them on Medium is that they make me money AND the platform has a very high SEO authority. My audience can still access the value I offer for free (via my friend link), so there is no change to them.
Let's compare this to YouTube. I have been on the platform for one year, have posted more than 50 videos, each taking me a full day to film, edit and upload. How much money has YouTube made me so far? Zero. I am still working on meeting the criteria for getting monetized.
Do you see what I mean when I say it's a huge win? Now, I don't expect to get rich from Medium anytime soon, but the earnings trend has been an upwards one ever since I started posting.
- May - wrote one story, did not turn on the monetization feature, earned $0
- August - wrote one story, earned $0.20 from it
- September - wrote two stories, earned $0.30 from 3 stories
- October - wrote two stories, earned $3.91 from 5 stories
- November - wrote one story, earned $1.04 (as of the 10th of the month) from 3 stories
My past stories keep earning me money and my new stories get me more exposure, new followers and therefore new views - which in turn increase my earnings.
I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to this platform, but if I were to post more often, I believe the results would be even more impactful. I've decided to dedicate a bit more time to Medium in the coming months as I have a strategy in mind for how to use it as a tool in my business. I'll keep you posted.
In the meantime , if you like writing, why not give this platform a try? Anyone can start writing on Medium and it's a good place to build some authority, read great stories and make some money.
Now that I've familiarised myself with the platform and tested it both as a reader and a writer, I include it in the discussions I have with my clients who want to build a successful coaching business. Medium can be a great marketing and selling platform, and some of my clients are already using it and getting traction.
If you'd like us to work together on your business, please get in touch. I have a lot more strategies to share.
Until next time, stay safe.
Alisa
