THE DIRTY U.P. TRIP

I’m going to do something a bit different for this issue. Like I told you last time, I’m not very good at taking pictures. But I did my best when I was in the Upper to shovel the roof off my cabin over President’s Day weekend. Didn’t get much on the way up because we were in a whiteout the whole time, but them's the breaks. I’ll try to give a bit of commentary as I go. So without further ado, let’s get into it…

image

Here’s the cabin, roof freshly shoveled. If you look closely, you can see the deffer in the background.

She didn’t always have a fireplace. My dad and I added it around 2007 or so. I did all the stone work. Dad did the supervising, as usual. It never did draw right,

but it does what it's supposed to.

image

A view from another angle. It was my first time doing stone work, by the way. Not too shabby.

image

Kitchen. Everything wood you see (door, cabinets, drawers, table, chairs) was made by my old man.

image

How do you power an off-grid cabin?

With ten 155 amp hour telecom batteries charged by solar panels, of course.

image

Headed home. Lake Michigan along US-2. My favorite stretch of road, by far.

image

More US-2. Those little piles are frozen waves.

image

And more.

image

And more. A better look at those frozen waves, eh?

Stopped to grab a bite before we hit the Bridge and ran into a whole fleet of these.

image

It’s not uncommon to run into a prototype vehicle here in the Mitten state. They think the wrap can fool me...

image

A little bird told me Dodge has been working on a new midsize pickup. Six bucks says it's the Dakota reincarnated. Any takers?

image

Headed towards the Mighty Mac, the gateway to the Lower Peninsula and my home a few hours beyond.

image

And there she is. The Mackinac Bridge.

Sorry I didn't do better. The weather was pretty wild and I don't usually carry my phone me when I'm at the camp. We don't get signal, so it would be useless if I did. Either way, it's nice to take a break from screens, you know?

But if you need something for a screen...

If it’s not too much trouble, please take a moment to leave a review or rating of my work at one of the links below. Hearing a few nice words, seeing a new rating pop up, or finding out that someone actually got a laugh out of one of my stupid jokes makes me glow like I’ve been lit with the fires of Sol. Plus, in a world obsessed with stars and algorithms, every little bit of exposure helps.
