THE REGULAR DIRT

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the life of wannabe author Ron Starke. Mostly normal life stuff with the wife and kids and whatnot, but this past weekend I was finally able to sneak away to my cabin in the Upper Peninsula for a few days! I took care of some normal maintenance-type stuff I wasn’t able to get to this spring due to the lock down, and even managed to find a few minutes catch a few brook trout in the East Branch of the Two-Hearted. After that, I headed up to the mouth of the Two-Hearted River where it dumps into Lake Superior and took a dip in the big lake. It was--as it always is--ice flaring cold, but traditions aren’t traditions unless you keep doing them.

Not a lot of writing this week, but I continue to plug away on Slab Steele and the Outer Rim Job as I have time. I’m taking the first week in August off from my day job to pound on some keys and make up some lost ground. Pretty flaring excited.

THE EXTRA DIRTY DIRT

With lots of drive time comes lots of listening time and--being the audiobook junkie that I am--I managed to finish a couple. The first was Space Team: A Lot of Weird Space Shizz by Barry J. Hutchison. For the second, I continued my revisit through the Aubrey/Maturin series with The Fortune of War by Patrick O’Brian. Both are amazingly written and expertly narrated. I highly recommend both series.

Speaking of audiobooks... if you’re looking to burn a credit, the audiobook version of Slab Steele and the Venusian Exchange will give you 15.5 hours of absurdity--complete with outtakes of Mr. Broadhead losing his def trying to read the weird flaring stuff I wrote. What’s that? You want a taste of the outtakes? Okay then. You can find them here

THE REALLY FLARING DIRTY DIRT

And here we are. The flaring promotional stuff. The free stuff... the stuff you like. Not a lot this week, but click away, friends.

That’s it for this edition of The Dirt. Oh, almost forgot! Pre-season craterball action will be picking up soon. As always, the Pluto Cthulhu and the Martian Reds are projected to front competitive teams, but I’m hearing big things are happening in the Belt Conference--particularly from the Io Ions and the Dactyl Terror. In the Kuiper, it sounds like the Ariel Mermen could make a run for the Conference title--if they can make it past the Cthulhu and those soldamn Troutman twins.

Stay safe out there, folks.
