The Dirt - Extra Special Fourth Edition

THE REGULAR DIRT

Sorry for bugging all you fine people twice in one week, but I'm about to go radio silent for the weekend (I hope) and I just wanted to wish you all a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend. And if you're from elsewhere in the world, I hope you enjoy the fireworks show from across the pond. It’s not just an American holiday, you know?

I bet you’re thinking that’s a pretty stupid thing to say, Ron. But if you scroll to the bottom, you'll see that I've quoted the greatest presidential speech in the history of 'Murica. That should explain where I’m coming from. As a personal tradition of mine, I always text it to my bruhs on the morning of the Fourth. Just in case they forget, you know? Feel free to do the same. Let’s start one of them interweb sharing things.

THE EXTRA DIRTY DIRT

The audiobook version of Slab Steele and the Venusian Exchange continues to do better than I ever would have dreamed. If audiobooks are your thing like me, please check it out. It's a rip roaring good time filled with laughs and gags--the perfect medicine for a time when the world has decided to be a little too serious. If you don’t like laughs and gags, please refer to the speech below.

THE REALLY FLARING DIRTY DIRT

Here’s some more of that promotional def. To be honest, this is really why I’m cluttering up your inboxes so soon. All of this newsletter def is new to me, but I promise I will learn to manage my obligations in a way that is more fair to you going forward.

The Axe by Vaughn Ashby

This is a killer (see what I did there) tale that follows an… wait for it… axe across time and space. It’s a seriously cool romp that blends sci-fi and horror in a unique and entertaining way. Check it out if you’re brave enough. Plus the cover is like, really flaring cool bruh.

Oh, and here's that speech I promised:

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world, and you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind.

Mankind. That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation.

We're fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

-President Thomas J. Whitmore
