Hello ,
Let’s talk about reactions.
Reactions to different situations that we go through.
I once went through two similar situations, and I had two different reactions to it.
With hindsight, looking back, I say to myself that I have learned that when you are going through a situation, it is important that you choose the reaction and how you want to respond to a situation.
The first situation I went through was when my father passed. I went through major grief. That was my first experience of grief.
Now, for me, I like exercising, and so what I did was I took up exercising to deal with the grief. I exercised so much, and I lost so much weight that people didn’t understand my reaction.
Now, 18 months after that, I lost my mom, and the reaction was the opposite. I got so depressed that I didn’t even want to walk 100 meters. I would overeat. I would just not want to be happy, and I did not think I had a reason to pick myself up.
The lesson in this for me and for you reading this is that when you go through surprising situations. Especially things that you do not know will be coming, is to choose your reaction.
As I go through life and as I am now older and wiser, I have learned that it’s important that I guard my mind and I choose life.
Always choose life.
For somebody, choosing life may mean you’re going through a tough situation and you’re choosing to be happy.
For somebody else, choosing life may mean that you’re going through a situation and you’re choosing to be positive.
My one word here is no matter what you go through, choose life.
So, if I were to go through my second event again, rather than go through depression or allow myself, and yes, it’s important to allow yourself, I should have chosen life.
Life for me would have meant picking myself up, even if I didn’t want to extremely work out, but I should have protected my mind, gone for simple walks, look for outlets that would help me feel better.
Life will always throw us situations that are tough and hard sometimes, but we must always choose life.
As you go through this week, or even no matter how the year has been for you, I say to you, choose life. Choose life because there is joy at the end of the tunnel.
Choose life because you will smile again. Choose life because you have God, and God has said joy will come in the morning.
Choose life.
Choose joy.
Choose your reaction.
Take care,
Olamidotun.
P.S.: Feel free to forward this to someone who needs a little reminder and encouragement.
Affirmation for the week
“I choose my reactions. I choose life.
I have the power to choose my response, no matter what life throws at me.
Even in my hardest moments, I choose life, hope, and healing.
My emotions are valid, but they do not define my destiny—I decide my direction.
Each day, I guard my mind and protect my peace with intention.
I trust that joy will come, even if today feels heavy.
I am resilient, and I rise by choosing faith, strength, and light.”
