The Power of Connection: Reflections on SWIM Gala 2025

When we started Saskatchewan Women in Medicine, we had a simple yet powerful vision: creating connections among women physicians across our vast province. Last weekend's Gala reminded me why this mission matters more than ever.

There comes a point in our lives and careers when we realize that some things are more valuable than degrees or professional accolades. Connection is one of them. As I watched the room fill with laughter, saw old friends reunite and new friendships bloom, I understood that we had created something far beyond a professional network.

The joy was palpable. From the rural physician who found her mentor, to the new-to-practice doctor who discovered her community, to the seasoned specialist sharing wisdom with residents and students - every smile, every animated conversation, every exchange of contact information reinforced why we started this journey.

Building SWIM has been a labor of love, with countless hours of planning and coordination. But seeing 150+ women physicians come together, watching barriers dissolve and support systems strengthen, made every moment of preparation worth it.

Because here's the truth: in medicine, we're often taught to be self-sufficient, to shoulder our burdens alone. But last weekend showed us a different way - a community where vulnerability is strength, where asking for help is welcomed, and where every woman physician knows she has a whole network behind her.

To every woman who attended, shared their story, offered support, or found their tribe - thank you. You are why SWIM exists. You are what makes this community extraordinary.

Here's to many more years of connection, support, and celebration. Because together, we're not just stronger - we're unstoppable.
