š± Viral ai tweet (and how it took off)
Apr 23, 2023 12:31 pm
Hola from Buenos Aires,
Here are 3 ai-goodies for you this week.
āāš¦ Viral Tweet
This was wild.
After some internet investigating I wrote this tweet which now has over 1.2 million viewsā¦
It was picked up by 25+ media outlets like TMZ, New York Post, Yahoo, and a bunch more. (Can google my name + drake ai for others)
TL;DR someone named Ghostwriter977 created an ai-assisted Drake song that was a š„. But since done by ai the record companies had it pulled from all platforms where it was getting millions of streams and views.
People are calling this āa modern Napster moment.ā
I was curious who this Ghostwriter977 character might be and got to googlingā¦
Thatās when I found my first clue.
You can read what I found in the tweet, but hereās what I didnāt share.
The song was uploaded 12 days before it went viral. I found it uploaded to Genius.com (a site that allows users to upload and annotate song lyrics). Itās now taken down, but the original URL included part of the personās name who posted it.
I only found this days after when I noticed the old URL redirected in my browser to the new URL: genius.com/Drake-heart-on-my-sleeve-drake-x-the-weeknd-ai-lyrics (which now also was taken down).
After finding the REAL ghostā¦ I realized he (or she/they, not going to assume ghostās pronoun preferences) was just an indie artist/entrepreneur. So in the end, I didnāt want to out the ghost. And decided not to share the latest finding.
All in all, it was CRAZY to see what the media will post (often not even fully accurate or even reading the full thread). Seemed like mainly a race to get clicks on a hot story. Kinda spooky. š»
Last thing on this. It was mainly luck and timing that it went viral. But I did plant a few seeds under a handful of bigger accounts that initially got the tweet tons of traction.
š¤ AI(so) What?
The majority of ānoiseā we used to see about ai has looked like this:
But now it's more like this:
(Sam Altman is the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI)
3ļøā£ The Real āAIā
The real āAIā in my eyes will always be Allen Iverson.
Allen Iverson aka āAIā was one of my favorite basketball players growing up.
He was tough as nails and played through ANY injury (sometimes 10+ injuries).
Iāll never forget maybe the greatest commercial of all time outlining all his injuries.
(Yes, your boy had AI kicks back in the day too)
I don't still have my AI shoes today. But think we can all learn from AI by putting ourselves in his shoes...
The TENACITY he brought to his craft was unmatched.
Makes me wonder how I can bring the same tenacity into my work and life.
But for now, Iāll keep hunting ghosts on the internet.
Con mucho gusto,
Mitchell aka āGhostbusterā
