Greetings from Playa del Carmen!
3 goodies for you this week.
🎉 $20 Dollar Delights
After a morning run earlier this month, I was thinking how much I’ll enjoy random acts of kindness later in life once financially set (crazy big tips, helping people with expenses, etc.).
I soon realized how silly that was and there’s no sense of waiting. So I jotted down a few quick thoughts on smaller versions I could start with then went along my way.
Then last Friday night in Rio, I was at the grocery checkout when the old man in the line to my left told me (in Portuguese) to go ahead of him since I only had one item.
I was touched by the gesture as this is not the common vibe in Rio.
So I told the checkout clerk I also will be paying for the old man’s basket of groceries too. But of course, no one understood my English so we had to call a manager over to translate. (ha it was sort of a scene.)
When the translation finally hit the old man, the appreciation on his face was complete disbelief. Neither of us spoke each other’s language but words weren't necessary. Through his gestures and his face, I felt his sincere love and gratitude.
I’ve thought about this before, so in a weird way, it almost felt like something I was supposed to be doing. That feeling when you’re digging for the seatbelt buckle in the dark and suddenly it finally just *clicks*.
When I got home I looked at the receipt to see how much this dopamine exchange cost in USD (either way, so worth it). When I subtracted my one item, his total came out to $95.67 BRL which is almost exactly $20 USD. Kinda wild!
Takeaway: Never wait. Take the desired future state and tug on it like a rope—pulling it closer to today with a smaller version to get started.

This is wild to think about.
