Every 1 degree a plane veers off course, it misses its destination by a mile (for every 60 miles).

Greetings from Colombia,

Everything in your life exists because of choices you make.

Good choices → good outcomes

Bad choices → bad outcomes

And if you don't make active choices, you’re CHOOSING to settle for whatever comes your way. :(

TLDR: You make choices, then your choices make you.

The goal of this newsletter, is to arm you with bite-sized nuggets to make better choices each week.

⚔️ Bezos Framework

If I could go back in time and reinvest all my energy from THINKING into DOING… my parents would be retired and I'd be pursuing my second career in music by now (probably).

I’ve wasted time because I didn’t understand the difference between type 1 and type 2 decisions...

In 2015 letter to shareholders, Jeff Bezos shared his now famous decision-making framework.

Type 1 Decisions = irreversible decisions that cannot be changed. These require much thought.

Type 2 Decisions = reversible decisions that CAN be changed later. Therefore these should be made quickly.

Bezos described the framework with a perfect analogy of walking through doors.

Type 1 decisions are like one-way doors (no option to turn back after entering). While Type 2 decisions are like two-way doors. You can pop in real quick and see what’s up, and walk right back out with nothing more than a little dirt on your shoes.

But most people waste time treating reversible decisions (type 2) as irreversible (type 1) and therefore never take action. While the majority of decisions are reversible and don’t require much effort or time.

🤔 Choose Your Hard

There’s a saying called “choose your hard” which is an oversimplification, but makes a great point. Better choices = better outcomes.

Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.

Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.

Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard.

Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard.

Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But we can choose our hard. Pick wisely.

Two practical questions I ask myself often:

  1. What's something I'd benefit from TODAY if I started 10 years ago? (ex: learned to code, started a business, shared writing online)
  2. What's something I'll benefit from in 10 years if I start today? (hint: often similar answers)

🔆 High Agency

High agency means finding a way to get what you want, WITHOUT waiting for conditions to be perfect or blaming the circumstances.

Anyone can be a go-getter (high agency, low talent).

Few can transform into game changers (high agency, high talent).

Both require high agency.
