A lesson takes longer than expected. Half the class finishes early. A meeting appears out of nowhere. Someone asks for tomorrow's sub plans at 4:47 p.m.
One small thing that can help is creating an emergency activity folder before you actually need it.
Add just three activities:
✔ one independent review
✔ one partner activity
✔ one self-checking digital activity
They don't need to cover the exact topic you're teaching that week. They just need to be familiar enough that students can begin without a long explanation.
Future-you will be extremely grateful.
After three promotional emails last week, I'm not here to sell you anything today. I simply wanted to share something that has saved me more than once.
What's the situation that causes the most last-minute stress in your classroom: early finishers, absences, sub plans, or something else?
Hit reply and tell me. Your answers will help me make future emails genuinely useful.
One more thing… I made something new!
My new Rounding Multi-Digit Numbers: Build a Scarecrow activity is available for just $1 for the next 24 hours.
Students solve 20 mixed rounding problems and use their answers to add details to a scarecrow. It was created for 4th grade, but it also works as a quick fall review for older students who could use some extra rounding practice.
You can take a closer look and grab it for $1 here.
And if you like this solve-and-draw format, hit reply and tell me: Which math topic would you like me to make next? I already have a few ideas, but I'd rather create the topics teachers actually need.
Talk soon,
P.S. If you have a colleague who could use a ready-to-go math activity right now, feel free to forward this to them.
