You won't get bored: what to do in Malta 25th to 31st of May
May 25, 2026 6:01 am
Hi,
Time ago I noticed that some events were hard to book on time, so I created the "Coming Up". That's now expanded with "COMING UP + BOOK AHEAD", the first is for the 30 days after of this week, the other for what's coming even later. I hope you will appreciate it. Back to business now!
FISHER brings his Triip festival to Malta this Thursday through Sunday - three days of electronic music across UNO Malta and venues around St Paul's Bay, and it looks like a serious one. And if that's not your sound, Brodu play a live set at Storeroom in Ta' Xbiex on Friday night - intimate, local, and exactly the kind of gig that sells out before you've decided whether to go.
THIS WEEK IN MALTA
- Malta's first official FIP Bronze padel tournament runs all week at Pembroke - if you follow the sport, this is worth watching, and the level of play should be noticeably higher than the usual club circuit.
- The Euphoria Weekender trance festival kicks off on Thursday 28 May and runs through to Monday 1 June, with pool parties, club nights and a boat party across Gianpula and other venues - a big international crowd lands on the island this week.
- Sunday afternoon brings something quieter: free guided art-and-faith visits through the Jesuits Church and its oratories in Valletta, led by the Pietre Vive community from 15:00 to 18:00.
SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK: FISHER PRESENTS TRIIP FESTIVAL
Three days of electronic music curated by FISHER himself, spread across UNO Malta in Ta' Qali and partner venues around St Paul's Bay - this is not a small local night, it's a proper festival format with international names and a lineup built around house and techno.
The setting at UNO Malta is open-air, which matters a lot in late May when the evenings are warm (but not brutal yet). If you've been to UNO for anything before, you know the site works well for this kind of event - enough space to move but intimate enough that the sound hits right. Pool parties in the afternoons, bigger shows as the night progresses. My advice: check the UNO Malta page for the day-by-day schedule before you buy, because some nights will be stronger than others depending on your taste.
Details: 29-31 May 2026, times vary by stage - UNO Malta, Ta' Qali Artisan Crafts Village, Ta' Qali - Tickets here.
WHAT'S ON: 3 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK
- BRODU LIVE AT STOREROOM - a rare chance to see one of Malta's best alternative rock bands up close in one of the island's best small venues.
When: Friday 29 May, 21:30
Where: Storeroom, Ta' Xbiex Seafront, Ta' Xbiex
Cost: Check event page for pricing
Tickets/info: here.
Why go: Storeroom is a proper listening room - small, well-run, great sound - and Brodu reward that kind of attention.
2. CHAMBER ELEGANCE: MOZART AND BRUCH - an open-air chamber concert for clarinet, viola and piano in the ruins of Pjazza Teatru Rjal.
When: Monday 25 May, 19:30
Where: Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta
Cost: Check event page for pricing
Tickets/info: here.
Why go: The setting does half the work - open sky, old stone, and Mozart. Hard to beat that on a Monday evening.
3. SOCIAL MIXER: MAKE NEW FRIENDS IN MALTA - weekly Sliema seafront mixer with structured icebreakers that actually make meeting people easy.
When: Thursday 28 May, from 19:30
Where: Surfside, Tower Road, Sliema
Cost: 7 euros (includes welcome drink)
Tickets/info: here.
Why go: If you've just arrived or want to widen your circle, this is genuinely the least awkward way to do it - the format removes the standing-around-hoping part.
Tip: Save or screenshot this section so you've got your week sorted in 10 seconds.

SEASON AHEAD - BOOK NOW

Where: Ta' Qali National Park, Attard
Tickets: 40-300 euros depending on seating tier (accessibility tickets at 60 euros)

2. MALTA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2026 - six open-air nights on the Valletta waterfront with international and local artists, and the festival pass is the smart way to buy.

Where: Ta' Liesse, Valletta Waterfront, Valletta
Tickets: From approx. 13.64 euros per night; festival pass approx. 54.55-60 euros
Book: here.
Note: Individual nights and passes already on sale - the waterfront crowd builds fast and popular nights sell out.
3. ISLE OF MTV 2026 - Katy Perry headlines Europe's biggest free music festival at the Granaries in Floriana - free to attend but you need to register, and registrations close well before the night.
When: Wednesday 22 July 2026, from around 20:00
Where: The Granaries (Il-Fosos), Floriana
Tickets: Free - registration required
Book: https://www.isleofmtv.com

WHERE TO GO: MAREA RESTAURANT IN KALKARA
Marea sits right on the Kalkara waterfront with Grand Harbour views and a menu that mixes Japanese-inspired sushi and sashimi with pasta, seafood and meat - call it Mediterrasian if you want a label, but really it's just a well-put-together spot in a location that earns its price point.
It's the kind of place that works for a long lunch just as well as a proper evening out - the lounge bar side means you can arrive early and take your time. If you're looking for something a bit more interesting than the usual Valletta or Sliema dinner circuit, the Kalkara setting alone makes the trip worthwhile.
Location: Triq Marina, Kalkara
Hours: Check website for current opening hours
Find them: here.
GET INVOLVED: INSPIRE FOUNDATION MALTA IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
Inspire supports children and adults with disabilities across Malta through therapeutic programmes, charity shops, fundraising events and administrative work - they're one of the most established disability support organisations on the island.
The volunteer roles span a real range - from therapeutic riding sessions and fundraising events to shop and admin support - which means there's something that fits most schedules and skill sets. If you're based near Zejtun or Marsaskala and have a few hours a week, this is a genuinely worthwhile place to put them.
How to join: here.
QUICK HITS
- The FIP Bronze padel tournament at Pembroke runs all week - if you want to watch competitive padel for free, the courts are at Triq L-Imhallef William Harding and the standard should be the highest Malta has hosted at this level.
- Save the date: Carl Cox plays UNO Malta on Wednesday 12 August 2026 - a peak-summer, open-air techno night with club-style capacity limits, so keep an eye on https://unomalta.com for tickets when they drop.
- Local gem: The Kalkara waterfront between Marina and the creek is almost completely off the tourist circuit - a 20-minute walk on a weekday evening and you'll have the Grand Harbour views almost entirely to yourself.
