Rebuild is quiet, but it’s still a rebuild

How personal style helped me find momentum again.
Hi ,
There are times in life when everything slows down. Not in a peaceful, cup-of-tea-on-the-veranda kind of way, but in a gut-level, "what now?" kind of way.
That’s where I’ve been lately.
In a lull. A quiet, almost invisible season of rebuilding. I’m not at rock bottom, but I’m not soaring either. Just... doing the work. Slowly.
And it’s strange, because five years ago, everything shifted really fast.
After returning to Brisbane from years of working in Sydney, I unpacked my life and realised I couldn’t fit my clothes back in my wardrobe. That one moment - standing in front of a bulging wardrobe that no longer reflected the woman I was becoming - triggered a complete transformation.
And then I took the nudge and RAN with it. I didn’t just declutter clothes. I cleared out everything:
- Old roles I’d long outgrown.
- Relationships that had turned into obligations.
- Hobbies and habits that no longer lit me up.
Nothing remained untouched.
It was a full-scale life audit, and it sparked something deep.
But reinvention was NOT what I anticipated. the transformation is loud. The rebuild? It’s quiet.
And that’s where the frustration creeps in. I have a strong vision and I can see the woman I’m becoming. I know how she dresses, how she moves, how she feels in her body. But the in-between can be discouraging. Especially when the bounce-back ability of youth feels... well, distant.
Still, little sparks show up.
Like the day I walked back into a ballet class after more than 30 years away.
No, I didn’t move like I used to. My body is different. My life is different. But something ancient inside me cracked open. A kind of joy that had been waiting patiently for me to come back.

I’ve always been drawn to forms of expression, things like music, acting, graceful movement. Things that let you feel your essence.
And maybe that’s why I’ve always loved personal style. Because it gives you something visible. Tangible. You can see yourself shifting. You put on an outfit and suddenly you’re standing taller. You wear a colour that lights up your skin and your whole day feels different.
It’s not vanity. It’s visual evidence that change is happening. Even when life feels stuck.
For me, style has been a kind of anchor in this slower season. A place I can play, take risks, experiment and still see results. Fast. It reminds me that not everything takes years. Some shifts happen in a moment. In a mirror.
So if you’re in a lull too and rebuilding something no one can see, you’re not alone.
You’re not late. You’re in the recalibration.
And the spark you’re looking for? It might not come from the gym, the planner, or the vision board.
It might come from a dance class. A powder brush. A precisely tailored cardigan. From something that reminds you that you’re still becoming.
And , that counts for everything.
