Stuff I Love

Hey Insiders,

Another Valentine’s Day behind us. Are you a lover of the holiday, or a hater?

I’ll be honest, I love sending Valentine’s cards to my family and friends, especially my single friends. But I hate the pressure on Michael and me to make it more romantic than any other day. I suspect Michael hates it more, although, as always, he made sure we celebrated in style.

Meanwhile, if you need a different holiday for February, the 26th is Tell a Fairy Tale Day.

Speaking of fairy tales, I have finally made serious progress on my Cinderella story, Bedazzled. After months of Covid-brain, I am writing, I am editing, and I am making real progress at long last.

The Bedazzled edit is almost complete - although I can't resist running through it one more time.  I am plotting two more books, and going crazy scribbling notes about characters, dialogue and more.

Bethany’s story is jumping around in my head. So is Leah’s. I have even started a new story, just because, well, just because. The point is, I am writing. And if I am writing, you should have new Madison Michael books to read soon. Thank you so much for your patience and your encouragement.

In the meantime, here are other authors for you to enjoy.

Here in Chicago, Winter is in full-force. Today they predict windchill temperatures of -30F. I cannot even imagine. For me, the snow and cold mean I need to wear too many clothes to make it worth it to go out. Putting on boots, taking them off. Ditto hats, gloves, scarves. It’s too much. Instead, I’m staying inside and making Valentine’s week my self-care week.

Surprised? You shouldn’t be. We all need to be our own romantic partners and winter is the best time because boy-oh-boy, do we need it!

For me, self-care means healthier eating, drinking more water, moving a bit more, sleeping a lot more and having a spa day. By day I eat three healthy meals and avoid the ice cream. I find a great Pilates video from The Balanced Life, cause I love Robin, and because it’s only fifteen minutes. Yeah, not a big exerciser here.

By night, I put on a mask (not that kind!), draw a bath scented with lavender oil and soak. I am not a background music person, but I do bring a glass of wine, and of course, a great romance. Gracie tries to disrupt my peace. Strangely, she is a water-loving cat, but I manage to escape completely.

When I am as shriveled as a prune, I slather on tons of body lotion with a hint color. The color is to offset my rather cadaver like coloring from being indoors all winter. I finish my face with a fabulous moisturizer and hit the sack for a really good night’s sleep.

Need a boost to your self-care routine? I love this undated, 13-week self-care planner from SimpleSelf, a woman owned company that uses sustainable materials.

It’s time to take care of yourself, for a day or for thirteen weeks. In the meantime, stay warm and stay safe.
