Stuff I Love - Farmer's Markets
Hey ,
Well, we’ve made it past the worst of the pandemic, or so the experts are saying. I am taking them at their word, cautiously. I went indoors to a
restaurant at long last and did it without a mask. It felt weird, but exciting. I plan to do it again this week. Eating out was one of the things I missed most - carryout just isn't the same.
Friends around me are scheduling get together, too. It's incredibly to see them after such a long wait. I am accepting as many invitations as I can, but I am also heads down trying to get my Double Dare series written.
After all twelve books is a big commitment.
Okay, make that thirteen.
I am just completely the first draft of a free prequel to introduce you to the Crazy Eights, and to kick off the story. The prequel is Kyra’s love story. Kyra is the only one happily married when the series starts and the challenge is issued. In fact she is the instigator of the Double Dare that drives this entire series.
Taking place ten years before the gauntlet is thrown down, this short story will give you an opportunity to meet many – but not all of the Crazy Eights. It should give you an understanding of friendships that are so tight they can survive decades and, of course, outrageous dares.
The prequel promises some steamy sex, some laughs and, of course, plenty of meddlesome Crazies.
Watch for it soon.

Farmer’s Markets
When I lived in the San Francisco Bay area, the farmer’s market was open all year – with everything from avocados to orchids for sale year round. Here in Illinois I am not as lucky, but I think I appreciate my Saturday mornings at
the market more than I did in the past. Only available from June to October, and with a more limited selection, I find myself focusing on three things – fresh berries, fresh eggs and herbs.
The rows of fresh herbs are amazing, lush, green and smelling like heaven on earth. What costs $5 for small package at the grocery is suddenly a huge bundle for only $2. My favorites include basil, parsley and dill. I love dill sprinkled into a salad, or over otherwise boring vegetables. But especially in a really good dip.
Today I am doing something different – sharing a recipe for my favorite dill dip. You may not know this about me, but I never cook. I microvave, grill or reheat, but I am not much of a cook. Especially once the weather gets warm. I simply grab a piece of fruit, or cheese and crackers, or make a sandwich. Easy grab and go stuff.
There was a time in my life when I loved to experiment with new recipes, inviting friends to be guinea pigs for exotic options like Shrimp a la Vodka or Cassoulet. I actually considered opening a bed and breakfast (hence my B&B Billionaire Series). I imagined baking muffins and scones, serving waffles and omelets. Then I imagined cleaning bathrooms and abandoned the idea.
Shortly thereafter, I gave up real cooking. Dill Dip doesn’t count as cooking though – requiring no stove, oven or microwave, it’s as close to grab and go as you can get. This dill dip is keto friendly, but with light version substitutes, it can be a lower-fat option for carb eaters too.
Creamy Dill Dip
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tsp fresh dill
1 tsp oregano (fresh or dried)
1 tsp parsley (dried)
2 Tblsp dried onion flakes
1 tsp seasoned salt
Mix and serve with cut vegies that you buy at your farmer’s market and enjoy. I usually halve the recipe but it keeps in the fridge for about a week.
