Hi Insiders,
Happy belated Mother's Day to all of you with or without moms and children. I see it as an excuse to eat and maybe give or receive flowers. Everyday should be like that.
And my apologies again for the latest techno-glitch. Have I gotten any of these special link emails right yet? I think not. I think I should stick to writing novels instead!
I need to send a shoutout to friend and colleague Kat Caldwell for introducing me to her Pencils and Lipstick Author community. Writing is generally a solo business, and needs to be. But authors need support just like other hard-working creatives, and for me that support usually comes in the form of an author collective group. Some work for me, others don’t.
Pencils and Lipstick has worked brilliantly, predominantly because the women are wonderful and because we do writing sprints – zoom calls where all we do is write together. It gives me a sacred writing time, set aside for that and that alone. Thanks to these Sprints, I have completed over one-third of Bethany’s journey to find love.
I am having so much fun writing about the drama is this spunky woman ‘s life. I am even kicking off Melinda’s story and giving you a much needed update on the lives of the Beguiling Bachelors – all of them!
It’s still only the first draft, but I hope to share a few draft excerpts in the coming weeks. After all, we need to know what Beth was thinking when she moved away from all her Crazy friends and bought a farm. And we want to see if she can hold onto it, and her heart!
DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP
You received a separate email yesterday to sign up for the new 'Can't Miss Reads' newsletter. Remember, I am separating the 'can't miss reads' section of my newsletter from the rest of the news and sending two separate emails from now on.
You might be wondering why? Because you requested it!
Some of you just wanted romance recommendations and others asked just for updates. So two emails.
But you need to sign up to get both, so go get that email - it should have arrived yesterday (complete with techno glitch!) Despite the glitch, the button in the email will add you automatically, but If you can't find the email, send me a note asking to add you to the list.

IMPACT by Sofia Aves
What does the ultimate adrenaline junkie do when the stakes get personal?
Always chasing his next high, Micah Riveria makes the biggest bang he can – whether it’s a new explosive to play with, lifting the biggest weights he can, or pushing the limit on the competition monster truck circuit. While the task force winds down after a big win, Micah spends time at the track working with Jimmy, the geeky
computer girl with green hair who tweaks his truck to perfection before every comp. Some of the drivers are looking for bigger highs that the pro circuit can provide, and Micah is swept up in a game of ultimate stakes — with Jimmy at the centre of it all.
There’s no job, no assignment, so the team take a break — and Micah heads to the track. He’s content to talk geek with Jimmy, live odd hours and get away from the expectations of the team and family. But a familiar face
in the crowd becomes a quiet threat to his peace. In the midst of his r&r, he finds himself suddenly part of a group of adrenaline junkies, pushing themselves and their limits — further and further.
As their behaviours become more erratic and desperate, Micah discovers a mole beneath it all — and finds himself picking up the investigation Ally dropped when she left Internal Affairs. He calls it in to Liam who tells
him to stay in — perfectly placed to drive the investigation. As his relationship with Jimmy heats up, he realises she might be right at the epicentre.
Owned By The Billionaire by Imani Jay
What happens when a billionaire bad boy and a sweet girl's word collide? Read this bite-sized, naughty romance, a twist on Cinderella's fairy tale.
Marie: When I'm once again late on rent, my roommate drags me to the club where she meets potential sugar daddies. This is not me! I'm a good girl. Hardworking and broke. I've never traded my charms for favors, never even been with a man I wasn't in a relationship with. Well, that was before I met him... Brock Ryan is everything I never thought I wanted. In his presence, my body hums with desire and my heart melts. His silver eyes eat me up like I'm special, but I know I'm just Brock's shiny new f-toy. I let myself live our torrid night to the fullest: no tomorrow, no regrets.
Brock: I’m a thirty year old, rich as Croesus, handsome as hell bachelor, reputed to be a great f-ck and extremely generous with my wealth. What else could a woman ask for? My affection? Please, feelings are grossly overrated. Give me a great lay, a nice conversation, a few laughs and a good night of sleep with a soft, warm woman in my arms and I’m a fulfilled man. Yeah… that was before I met Marie. The curvy as f-ck, dark skin beauty I'm taking home. She might think it's just for the night, but I know she's mine to keep.
Mess For Daddy by BL Brooks
Serving drinks at the hottest upscale club in town has never been a dream of mine, but it’ll do for now.
I’m eighteen years old, and catering to the high class in hopes of making rent for the month while wealthy socialites spend 1000X my earnings in one causal night at the club. I need a new career...Though, the night Alec Huxley chose my section for his meeting, my world flipped.
Nerves get the best of me as his deep-blue eyes drag along my body, causing me to fumble and spill whiskey all over his designer suit.
It’s official. I’m THE worst. But he seems unbothered by the stain forming from my clumsiness. He even goes as far as offering me a job to work for him, which I’m still not sure if I should take... is this a trap? Some ploy to get me alone and have his way with me, all to just throw me aside the second after? At least, that’s the pattern of the men that show up around here. Being eighteen and free has its perks, pushing me to want to take a chance. I mean, why not? Maybe it’s time to see what life has to offer all by making a mess... for daddy.
Book Clubs
Well, y’all know I love books – all kinds of books. I have no problem finding my next romance read, but what about new literary fiction, or even non-fiction. I love exploring new authors and I have discovered that a great book club is the best way to do that. If you spend fifteen minutes online you can find book clubs at your local library, senior center or independent bookstore.
But we all know how much I hate to get dressed and pull myself together. So here are a couple of my favorite book clubs you can attend in sweats!
Craft Talk Book Club hosted by authors Mary Adkins and Nicole Breit. This one is for authors, but the book list is appropriate for anyone who loves a great book. Their list is one of the best, from the memoir Untamed to
this month’s mystery “ripped from the headlines”, Saint X. The group meets once a month and discusses the craft of the book , how it is written, rather than the story itself. Authors can learn more and sign up for free here.
If you want a big club with lots of members you can of course try Oprah’s club or Reese’s Hello Sunshine Book Club, but I prefer the Ladies’ Lit Squad. Founded by writer and blogger Sheree Mill, the club has exploded to over 7,000 members. The club is sponsoring a “21 Books in ’21 Challenge” to help readers broaden their reading scope. Books include multiple genres, but all are written by women or authors of color. If you are up for the challenge, learn more here.
Try one through your local independent bookstore, or let me know your favorite online bookclub and I will share a few with the rest of the Insiders in weeks to come. After all, we all love a good book!
Happy reading,
P.S. The Beguiling Bachelors series is no longer available in eBook format. Paperbacks can still be purchased on Amazon. Watch for their new launch on Galetea, coming June 8th!
