Writing, Talent vs Work

Crazies Scaled Back

Cats and Novels

It's Election Day

Hey

"A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit."

As I dig deep to find the will to write 50,000 words in 30 days, I keep reminding myself NO QUITTING! It's National Novel Writing Month and I signed up to write the equivalent of a Harlequin Romance in one month (minus ten days for vacation in North Carolina.) Sometimes I think I am insane.

You would be astonished at the number of people I meet who say they want to write a book. The difference between them and me? I put my butt in the chair and write. Then I rewrite, edit and rewrite again.

The good news is that I love doing it. Fortunately, because it's hard work.

"Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work."

Meanwhile, life has intruded with vacations (good) and Covid (bad), trips to the vet and to the pharmacy for booster shots. It's also intruded with lunches with family and friends, but always, I return to my computer and my books.

Ninety one percent of people questioned will say they want to write a book. Three percent will actually begin one, and only one percent of those people will finish!

"There is no rule on how to write. Sometimes it comes easily and perfectly: sometimes it's like drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges."

That said, the path of true love is not always easy. In my case, that includes the path for my Crazy Eights. Because the books have taken longer than I anticipated, I have decided to limit the series to eight books, rather than my ambitious plans for twelve. This will allow you as readers to complete the series before 2025!

I hated abandoning my four other stories, so I will save them for another series, perhaps. But for now, I am concentrating on my beloved Crazies with plans to release four to six books in 2023 (included a relaunch of the prequel, Crazy to Wed) and a relaunch of the completely rewritten Dare to Hope. This will not be Crazy to Believe and play a pivotal role in my All's Crazy in Love series.

Watch for these two books, plus others in the series, and a billionaire story published in an anthology later in 2023. Big plans!!!

It's a contest! I don't know about you, but I am a sucker for challenges, contests, quizzes. I think I got hooked back in the Cosmo days of "Which sex and the City Character are You?' Ooh, that gives me an idea..t, hot!

imageI know it sounds strange, but I realized this week that cats and novels bug me in identical ways. Not always, but in four specific instances they plague me almost identically. Learn about these four annoying cat—or novel—behaviors on this week's blog post.

Here is the US, today is election day and I absolutely love VOTING! Seriously. I eat this democracy stuff right up! I ordered an absentee ballot this year, as I often do, because our ballots here in Illinois are L-O-N-G. For example there were more than seventy judges running for election or reelection! And I like to do a bit of research before I vote, you know, to make an informed decision. So taking reams of paper into the voting booth, or checking my phone every five minutes seems difficult. But that absentee ballot allows me time and space to cast my vote.

In our system of government we the people participate and voice our opinions through our votes. People in other countries, and here too, have died earning the right to voice their preferences. Don't waste you voice. VOTE!

Stay healthy, and happy reading, and don't forget to vote

P.S. Have you ordered your copy of the anthology raising funds for reproductive health charities? Many women are losing their health care providers, so consider Hell Hath No Fury, a romance read featuring some amazing authors while also supporting health care for women.
