Hey ,
I watched the season finale of Ted Lasso this week, perhaps the series finale? Rumor is that the writers intended only three seasons, but Apple TV wants more for obvious reasons. I was sorry to see it go, which launched an argument between my sweetie, Michael and me.
Michael: Three seasons is perfect.
Me: But it’s the top-rated show. Why would Netflix stop now?
Michael: Because shows should end while they are still charming, and around season four the characters lose their charm.
Is he right, I wondered? In the interest of full disclosure, I hate when he is right.
But perhaps he has a point. When does a series get stale? When does a writer reveal too much about their characters? I know that by the end of every season of the Bachelor I dislike all the contestants, and the bachelor too, so I understand that there is a breaking point.
Where is yours?
You might remember that originally, I was writing the All’s Crazy in Love series in twelve books. I cut it to eight novels, not because I thought the Crazy Eights would lose their charm, but because some people wouldn’t start the series until they could binge it all. I didn’t want readers waiting four years, nor did I want to rush to finish all twelve stories.
Lucky for me, along came Tall, Dark and Rich, the steamy billionaire anthology available for preorder now. With best-selling authors, and a wide variety of stories, it promises to be a great read for under a dollar! It also offered me a chance to write one of those four “crazy” novels that were cut from my original series.
Now that I am editing Leah’s story, I find myself wanting to write those other three stories, too. Originally, I planned for four friends to join Gabby’s crazy scheme to marry each other off. Now, I think I want more books where the crazy eights meddle to make dreams come true.
So, the question I have to answer is the one Michael posed to me: When do the characters lose their charm? I guess we will all find out the answer, together.
My Saturday newsletter is going weekly in July!
Currently I share four books every two weeks, but beginning next month I will share two books each week. This allows me to give them more attention while making it easier for you to choose and keep up with new options and new authors.
Also happening now are three hot book promotions.
If you love collections and boxed set romances, this is the promotion for you.
Collections, Anthologies, & Boxed Sets - June Edition
Also, in June, two promotions stuffed with steamy summer reads, one open to all romance genres, the other only contemporary romance. Both run through June. Choose from June Steamy ALL ROMANCE BookFest! or
June Steamy CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE Book Bonanza!
I was a guest last week on J Arlene Culiner’s blog, Food for Love, talking about Crazy to Believe and offering a great summer pasta salad recipe. If you haven’t checked it out yet, head over to read it now.
Book coach Cianne McKinnon was a guest on my blog last week offering the ten pieces of advice she gives every author/client. Cianne is a perky redhead with a wealth of information and a passion for creativity. If you are an author looking to move away from overwhelm, you won't want to miss this post. For readers, seeing what an author is up against is fascinating. Cianne has nailed it!
Also on the blog, I have created a post with more information about Tall Dark and Rich and the authors behind it. Intrigued? Learn more here.
I love communicating with you guys.
I love it even more when you communicate back! That includes your feedback in blog comments, on social media, in reviews (always, always welcome) or even one on one emails—send more, I read every single one myself.
But I hate getting emails, so I try not to send you too much stuff. Here’s the problem with that though: sometimes I want to share an event, a sale, a blog post, news, between newsletters. So, I am going to send emails every Tuesday instead of every other, beginning in July.
I promise to keep them short, perhaps just a pointer to that day’s blog post, or an announcement of a great sale you don’t want to miss. I hope you will find them useful, but if not, you can always unsubscribe. I never want you to dread seeing me show up in your inbox.
That’s it for today.
