Did you know that August is Romance Awareness Month? Probably not, but I am all over it!

Also, yesterday was both National Girlfriends Day and Sisters Day. I'm on that one too.

To honor all of these, I thought I would pay homage to my Crazy Eights from the upcoming Double Dare Series. I believe the more you know them, the more you will come to adore them as I do - like sisters, like friends.

Here’s to my own Crazies—you know who you are—and to my three sisters as well. My friends are like sisters, my sisters are like friends. Could I be more fortunate?

So let’s get to it.

Meet the Crazy Eights, eight women who have been friends since the third grade, when Kyra – small but feisty, rounded them up on the playground and insisted they pledge fealty to each other. Twenty years later, the bond between these women still holds. And if they want to kill each other now and then, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other.

Avery – Quiet and shy Avery lures you into believing she is afraid of her shadow. Not her. She is a fighter, running a major hospital IT department and rescuing cats by the dozens. Do anything to harm a defenseless critter and you will see just how powerful Avery’s voice is when she uses it. Just don’t ask her to talk to a man – this woman doesn’t do dating.  

Bethany – Beth dances to her own drummer, dressing for color and comfort, giving up everything she knows to try her hand running a B&B and an organic farm. Moving almost an hour from her friends, Beth sets out to renovate a crumbling old house and put her life on a trajectory of minimizing her impact on the earth, helping others, and doing her small part to save the world..

Cassandra – Smart and sassy, Cassandra loves the dramatic, from Crazy Eight gossip to Broadway theater. And she has plenty of drama in her everyday life. Widowed young, left to raise two teens and keep the family business afloat, she needs the support of the Crazies, and they want to deliver.  But Cassie is protecting someone or something and without the truth, her friends are at a loss what to do.

Eliana – Raised by the strictest of parents, married to the son of their dearest friends, Eliana keeps a tight rein on her life, despite her head-turning beauty and whip-smart brain. Longing for a family, Eliana is living in Boston, away from her friends, pouring in energy into her very successful career.

Harper – Of all the Crazy Eights, Harper is the most steadfast and true. Soft-spoken, athletic, hard-working, and devoted to her fiancé, she keeps her focus on what’s important, and the group from getting into trouble. She has a real talent for the arts and for making the girls laugh.

Kyra – Determined Kyra knows how to get her way. She wants the girls to form a club; they do. She wants to hold the group together; she does. Kyra is a wiz at business, climbing the corporate ladder so fast she leaves the competition in the dust. But Kyra knows how to have fun, how to lose her heart, and how to issue a challenge that will turn the Crazy Eights on their heads.

Melinda – Mel is something of a southern belle trapped in the body of a modern Chicago girl. She loves to decorate and bake, her heroes reside on the Cooking Channel and HGTV, yet she spends her days in designer suits negotiating multi-million-dollar acquisitions for one of the city’s most prestigious law firms and her weekends watching her pre-teen boys play baseball.

Rachel – Red-headed Rachel has her own clothing design studio and was recently named the ‘it girl’ in fashion design. Jet-setting the globe from fashion show to fashion show, Rachel also bounces from bed to bed. Her heroes are the women of “Sex in the City,” she eats like she has a hollow leg and swears like a sailor. But, of course, she is fiercely loyal to the crazies with a heart of gold.
