Hi ,
Yes sometimes loving ourselves can be a challenge.
Often our attention is scattered and not at all on how we feel, how we are truly doing and being.
There is so much going on in our world these days and no doubt in your personal world too:)
Some say that attention is our Most valuable currency. Not our bank account, not what we have but our inherent human energy. This energy can be expressed as our attention. In fact we often say - we are 'paying' attention! And it is a matter of understanding how we 'spend' this.
Where does your attention go?
In any moment what we are focussed on is the flow of our attention.
And often we are not aware of our inner world.
We are used to being externally focussed - others, circumstances - whatever we are responding to outside of ourselves often that is where our attention is going.
Sadly we miss ourselves in this external focus of attention.
And yes our evolution knows we must focus externally to keep ourselves 'safe' from the long ago lions and tigers that threatened our every existence. And those threats to our safety are fewer and fewer - not to ignore it but to understand there is balance of inward AND outward attention.
It is time to train our attention to notice external circumstance and our internal state of being.
When we know how we are in any moment we are 'at choice' to support ourselves and be more loving to ourselves.
And when we are more loving of ourselves we can be more loving of our world and those people important to us.
I think attention is love... it is our human capacity and energy to focus our energy in any way we want.
If upon reflection, you realize your attention is most often external focussed - I invite you to consider checking in with yourself on a regular basis throughout the day - how are you really doing?
What can you change to support yourself and be more loving towards yourself..
If you are feeling sad - maybe it's time to attend to your sadness.
If you are feeling down perhaps you can reflect on what gives you inspiration and incorporate more of that in your day.
If you are feeling awesome maybe you can find someone to share it with to lift their day. (I love to hear about others success)
As we come to bring our attention to our inner world we can evolve our 'attending' to be more loving and take action to feel better. And that 'action' may be sitting still:)
The ultimate reality is that is our responsibility to know our state of being and attend to it. No-one else is responsible for our own happiness.
So I invite you to take a couple of moments every day to note how you are doing, recognize it and do what you can to support yourself to be happier and create your own inner peace.
Our being does know if it is being attended to and if it's not, we may feel we've been abandoned - only by ourselves - and yeah!! we can do something about it!
May you notice where your attention is - and 'pay attention' to your state of being.
The good news is that as we do this more often we can share more of our inherent goodness with the world and make it a better place.
Just knowing this gives me inner peace.
I'm grateful to share this with you and hope it is helpful.
