Proactive VS Reactive people

Hi ,
I hope you are fine and in good health. Today’s newsletter is about a an interesting book I have been reading.
This book is about how words can have a powerful impact on each person depending on their personality.
I’d like to give you an example.
The author stated that there are all the people can be subdivided in proactive, reactive and equally reactive and proactive.
Apparently about 60% of the human population are equally reactive and proactive, 20% are only reactive and the remaining 20% are only proactive.
But what do we mean by proactive and reactive?
Proactive: “People in a Proactive mode initiate. They tend to act with little or no consideration, to jump into situations without thinking or analysing. They may upset some people because they can bulldoze ahead with what they want to do. They are good at going out and getting the job done. They do not wait for others to initiate.”
Reactive: “people tend to wait for others to initiate or until the situation is right before they act. They may consider and analyse without acting. They want to fully understand and assess the situation before they will act. They believe in chance and luck. They will spend a lot of time waiting. Some people may get upset with them because they do not get started. They will wait for others to initiate and then respond. In the extreme, they operate with extra caution and study situations endlessly. They make good analysts.”
Which kind of personality do you have? Let me know! I am equally both.
The cool thing about this book it’s that it gives you advise on how to communicate effectively with these different personalities. In case you see that the person you you're talking to is proactive it’s better if you use short, “active” sentences and phrases such as “do it! Jump in! Get it done!”...Have you ever thought about the reason the Nike motto is “Just do it” ? It’s because, as an activewear brand, their aim is to reach sporty, active (proactive) people.
However, if you are faced with a person that shows “reactive attitude” use a language that suggests an insightful thought process, such as “let’s first think about it; let’s consider all the options” etc...You’d have a better chance of convincing and influencing them.
That’s it for today,
I hope you have found this email interesting. Do you like this type of content? Please let me know.
