Hi, ,

We are defending against 3NT when, in trick two, the declarer plays the eight of hearts. We note the five queens in dummy's hand and must assess whether to win the trick or duck it. Do we think partner holds the king of hearts?

Through this hand, we see the importance of getting on the same page with your partner regarding defensive signals. Curt and his partner use upside down carding, where a high card signals encouragement while a low card indicates discouragement. This strategy can prevent wasting high cards that might win tricks, allowing for more strategic signaling between partners. What signaling method do you prefer and why?
