Slipping through the cracks

Hawthorns and Wyverns
I had a dream the other night that there was a woman and her child who had been living out of her car. Unfortunately, there weren't many places she could legally park overnight, and one time while they were out getting food, the car got impounded. So now she and her kid were both homeless and had lost all their posessions, including her paperwork and the car title, which was kept in the car as she had nowhere else to store it. In the dream I started to try to help her get her car back, but she needed the title, and to get a new title she needed ID (which had also been in the car) and to get a new ID she needed a permanent address. In the United States, it's easy to fall through the cracks like this.
I don't know what prompted this dream, but when I woke up I started thinking about Hawthorn's Hex. I had Tessali working at the Renaissance Festival in Shapeshifter's Turf because it seemed like that was a place where someone without any identification could survive. I knew some people in my Renaissance Festival days who could easily have been illegal immigrants or people who ran away from a bad home situation. Not everyone, of course, but places like that are good for those living on the margins.
When I was doing the publication work for Wyvern's Sigil, I went online to Goodreads and saw that Hawthorn's Hex didn't have any ratings or reviews. How did it slip through the cracks like this? Turns out, one of the versions of Hawthorn's Hex had been separated from the others. I just recombined them now, so it has a few reviews, but it could always use more. I just wrote two reviews of books I finished listening to this weekend, so I'm practicing what I preach. Thanks to everyone who wrote reviews of Wyvern's Sigil and my other books. It really helps!
