Kit's done with vampires

But vampires aren't done with her

I got my feedback on Wyvern's Sigil now and I'm ready to really dig into the revisions. I will hurry though. I know some of you are keen to read it and I don't want to disappoint you. Still waiting on cover art but I'll share that (and a link when it's available for preorder) when I can. I need to tighten up the beginning and make sure that the ending has a proper shave-and-a-haircut riff ending. I'd already added a few more lines to make it clear what happens, but I always read and reread my novels to check for inconsistencies and errors before they're published. Honestly, by the time it's on the shelf, I'm usually sick of it.

But not for long. I do love my characters and I miss them when I'm not working on a novel. I picked up Vampire's Pawn the other day to reread the ending scene with Kit and Adamiak. Kit may be hopelessly in love with Fenwick, but I guess I just prefer guys who are a little shorter. Kit also likes IPAs (I can't stand the taste of hops), and she likes dogs (I prefer cats). Also, I can't do magic, but I do have machines that wash my clothes and dishes for me--which is pretty sweet if you think about it.

If you could choose one of Kit's abilites, but you always had to wash your clothes and dishes by hand the rest of your life, would you choose that? Would you sign up for telepathy if in exchange you could never own or use a smartphone? I think when a lot of us long for magic powers, what we really want is power that other people don't have. It's hard to think of magic powers that don't have some corollary in the real world. Even flight, the best superpower, you can sort of do by buying a plane ticket or learning circus arts.

But I do wish I had my own Kaa. There's no real corollary for having a crow familiar, but I'm working on coercing the local flock into trusting me by feeding them peanuts. So far they're terrified of me, and will fly away if they see me through the window, but if I'm successful and teach them I'm safe enough that they let me watch them without freaking out, well, that will be magical.
