Can kindergarteners operate backhoes?

House Sanguinatus wants revenge

I just finished the first draft of Kit Melbourne Book #10! Right now my beta readers have it, and their feedback sometimes spurs changes. My friend Keyan Bowes (another writer you should check out) is especially helpful. For example, in Warlock's Blood, Walker was the one to bring David Emory to Kit's house and in Vampire's Pawn Adamiak killed Holzhausen. Keyan advised against these and I agreed with her.

While I wait for feedback, I'm taking a breather by doing some research, for example on whether or not a child could operate a backhoe. By "research" I mean "ask people I think might know." My cousin said that a child could move the arm but would not be able to reach the pedals to make the machine move across the ground. Have you operated a backhoe? It's on my bucket list now. I'm taller than 5' so I can probably reach the pedals.

When I've finished my revisions, I'll contact my artist to talk to her about doing another cover. (Maybe Kit in front of their trailer in the mountains?) Then it's more proofreading, writing the backflap copy, and a few other formatting and marketing tasks before finally getting it published. It usually takes a couple of months between "finishing" the book and actually finishing the book.

And then comes the fun part ... starting the next book. I am definitely in the mood for a heist novel with a complicated plot, double-crossings, old friends, old enemies, and lots of strange magic. New ideas are already starting to percolate through my mind. I'll try to do the editing and publishing as fast as I can, because I get pretty itchy when I'm not working on a novel.

Do you preorder books, or do you wait until they are out on the shelf? If enough of you respond and say you prefer preorder, I'll set it up as soon as I have art. If you preorder, let me know that too. If you're low on patience, why not catch up on the series by reading books 7, 8, and 9 to get a head start? (And as always, please rate and review! Thanks!)

*My working title has been Wyvern's Curse, but I just learned there's a fantasy short story by that title so my second choice is Wyvern's Sigil. Thoughts? Hate one or love the other? Let me know!
