The fragility of creativity

I'm 18,000 words into KM11 (working title of the sequel to Wyvern's Sigil) and I know that at least 80% of what I have so far will be deleted. I've written one scene five different times and none of them feel right.

There are two cures I know for writer's block. One is to take a break and do some other kind of creative activity, like in 2016-2017 when I spent a year painting instead of writing. The other cure is to rabidly consume other content. My content of choice these days are true crime and paranormal podcasts, preferably those laden with first or second hand accounts. I love the idea that my inspiration comes from either my own experiences or from someone else's own experience, especially as an inspiration for fantasy!

Recently I've been geeking out about T. Kingfisher. I like T. Kingfisher because she can make even the most benign things terrifying, such as a pile of junk, willow roots, or a sourdough starter. I've often felt that my own wheelhouse is when I myself can combine terror with humor, such as when the ghost of Mister Whiskers roars in the distance, or building dread of dangerous children while living in a crumbling cookie house.
