Would you say yes to Narnia?

I may in fact be a hobbit
Travel is only really enjoyable if you know you can come back. If I'd found a wardrobe or a clock when I was Lucy Pevensie's age, I would have gone through to Narnia without a second thought. I mean, especially if there was snow. Now if I had a portal to Narnia, I'd probably try to find some way to make it into a heat pump to save on energy bills. Or at the very least I'd use it as a refrigerator. Some faun would go for a walk in the woods and come upon some tupperware of that stew I made too much of and half a pack of freezer-burned gyoza. But would I go through it? Hmm, maybe not without a rope tied around my waist.
Now I feel more like a hobbit. Adventures, pah, such a bother. Make you late for supper. As children we could fantasize about having The Doctor invite us to gallavant around the galaxy in his Tardis, but as an adult, I can't help wondering who will feed my cats while I'm gone, and if I'll come back again. That's an aspect they don't always cover in the "mundane kids get transported to a fantasy world" trope. I get the thrill of seeing magic and wonder, but do they truly not stop to think about the damage they're doing to the people left behind? But then again, characters who stop to think about the consequences of their actions are harder to plot around.
