Hello there!
I hope everyone's enjoying their holiday season!
I wanted to shoot a quick message sharing an exciting new project I've been quietly working on, as well as let you in a little early at no cost!
It's an E-Magazine titled Nerium...
Nerium is a digital magazine for mentalists, inspired by an imagined, idealized version of the old magic periodicals such as The Sphinx and The Jinx.
Not the historical reality in all its variety, but the one many of us carry in our heads: direct material, bold thinking, and effects aimed squarely at revealing inner thoughts and offering meaning. The tone is influenced by the 1930s psychic entertainer, but the work itself is intended for modern performance.
I didn’t want an actual subscription or ongoing commitment. Each issue stands on its own and contains a single, complete effect or system that can be purchased independently, picked up when it interests you, and skipped when it doesn’t.
The focus throughout is practical material for standup and parlor performers: reading systems, Q&A frameworks, billet work, propless ideas, and methods that allow you to stay in the moment, rather than buried in procedure during the show.
To begin the project, Issue #1 is completely free.
The first issue introduces The Chessboard Oracle, a flexible reading system built around chess pieces. It covers intuitive and structured meanings for each piece, ideas for invisible readings, and several performance applications including Q&A, anagram work, and multi-part audience readings. It’s a system I’ve been using regularly and wanted to properly document.
Future issues plan to explore things like:
- A full theatrical Q&A act with no pre-show and no memorization
- Propless and verbal Q&A techniques
- Minimal envelope-based Q&A systems
- A spectator-as-mindreader routine involving an ungimmicked combo lock
- A new book test based on an overlooked idea
- Clean approaches to Bank Nite and tossed-out-deck style routines
- And more
You can download the first issue for free at the link below. If it resonates with you, I hope you’ll keep an eye on future releases under the "Nerium Banner" as they come out.
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reply right to this message, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
I wish you all a new year full of absolute mystery!
Best thoughts to all,
Judah Gabriel
