Many of you are EdTech UX or product experts...

And I certainly am not. However!

Here's a quick example to share with you. It's a great EdTech product choice. And it comes from CommonLit.

Often, EdTech products make it surprisingly difficult to - wait for it - actually share the product with students!

There are extra clicks, confusing pages to navigate, or links that don't work.

Check out the screenshot from my Google Classroom below, though. When I assign a text to multiple classes, CommonLit helps me out. They instantly present three unique links for me to add to my clipboard.

Then it's a quick CTRL+V. Boom - each link is on Google Classroom.

These are "Last Mile Product Decisions" in K12 EdTech. They make the difference between a teacher saying...

1) "Yes, you should try this!"

OR

"No, don't bother...my students couldn't even log on..."

⚡ Lightning Round ⚡ 10 EdTech Startups Give 1-Minute Pitches!

I'll be sharing this a lot because it's so fun to use the lightning emojis ⚡⚡⚡⚡

This week, 10 EdTech founders pitched their startup in one minute or less on The EdTech Startup Show podcast.

You can hear from companies working to:

  • improve the college search experience
  • make it easier for schools to create schedules
  • help kids learn STEM through a few different ways
  • connect teachers' lessons to fun pop culture videos
  • and more

For the full list of startups featured, read the show notes here. You can also listen on Spotify, listen on iTunes, or use the instant-download link here.

Reach out to these founders if you're interested in what they're working on.

Do teachers & school leaders believe what your website says?

Marketing software company Unbounce just released a deep-dive on conversion rates. For the education industry, they reported that the average landing page converts at 4%. But the best pages convert at 27%.

Have you noticed which number you're closer to lately?

If you're too close to 4% (and too far from 27%), then consider this:

One of the biggest factors for the conversion rate of your landing pages, or any marketing material for that matter, is simply the words you use.

Does the copy sound authentic? Do teachers & school leaders actually sound like that? Would they use that phrase?

To help you answer these questions, I wrote a short book called the Lunch Time Files: A Ground-up Guide to Marketing Your Education Product or Service.

  • It's for people who like this newsletter but want something more practical or step-by-step
  • You can get it as a PDF or an audiobook
  • When you buy it, you can also get a special deal on a one-hour copy consult call to help you implement the ideas

You can learn more and buy the book here.

Thanks for reading,

Gerard Dawson
