πŸš€ Your Guide to Tech Independence: A Quick, Easy Win! -> FYFY #23-16

Jun 24, 2023 8:44 am

Hey there, fellow biohackers, builders, and entrepreneurial wizards!

Welcome to this week's edition of FYFY. I'm Dom, your guide on this journey, where we'll delve into transforming purpose into reality and unlocking your potential. My mission is to empower 21,000 European thinker-doers by 2025 to leverage exponential technologies and impact a billion lives by the end of this decade.

Spoiler alert: This piece is going to be short and sweet, a delightful contrast to our recent deep dives.

Got a couple of minutes to spare? Fantastic!

From iCloud to I Control: My Journey of Tech Independence continues

Last time we met, we explored the idea of 'Tech Independence'. Remember? It's that cool concept Derek Sivers talked about in his chat with Tim Ferriss. It's all about saying 'bye-bye' to the tech giants and 'hello' to controlling our own digital lives.

Why is it important? Because in this digital era, data is gold. And who wouldn't want to have control over their own treasure, right?

So, what did I do? I spent 25 minutes. Just 25 minutes. And guess what? I freed my contacts and calendar from the grasp of Google and Apple. My tool for this great escape - Radicale. It's a neat, self-hosted solution for your calendar and contact list.

Post setup, it's business as usual on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac:

Your move now: Ready to be a tech maverick?

πŸ’‘ If you're a Mac user, it's a breeze:

  1. Kickstart Radicale on your server. Derek Sivers' instructions are your roadmap.
  2. Set up your own DAV (CalDAV and CardDAV) on your Mac. Just add a new account in your contacts and calendar apps using the Radicale server URL, username, and password.
  3. Migrate your contacts from iCloud to your new DAV server. It's a task you can finish in a quick coffee break.
  4. Follow suit with your calendar events.

Just like that, you've reclaimed your contacts and calendar.

Wait, but be careful! Before you rush to delete all your iCloud contacts, ensure you've got a solid backup. Run both services (iCloud and Radicale) side by side until you trust your new setup completely.

What's next? Start your journey. Reclaim your tech independence. And when you do, share your stories with me. I’d love to learn from your progress. Let's get to know each other's digital revolutions.

And let's not forget, this journey is all about crafting choices for you and your loved ones. Our work with peak performers at Quest Vitality has shown us that the degree of control you have significantly impacts your perceived stress levels. So, reclaiming your most intimate data is more than just a power moveβ€”it's a step towards securing peace of mind for the future. Plus, there's a distinct thrill in being able to create your own service in today's digital landscape. 😎

Over the next weeks, we'll delve into more ways to get tech independent, like hosting your own mail server. Stay excited!

Are you ready to claim your independence?

Yours truly,

-- Dom
