Excerpt:
Their eyes met, and in that instant, a surge of recognition passed between them. It was as if their souls had known each other in a realm beyond time, their connection etched in the fabric of their existence. Harper’s heart raced, and the air around them crackled with an undeniable energy.
The woman approached Harper, her movements fluid and graceful. A smile played upon her lips, revealing a hint of mischief. Harper found herself drawn to the woman’s presence, her essence radiating an aura of ancient power and mystique.
“These woods are cursed. Surely you’re aware of that,” the woman spoke, her voice a melodic symphony that echoed through the clearing. “Tell me, what drove you to risk your life like this? Falling in the clutches of an ogre?” She circled Harper, her dark aura engulfing her, almost bidding her to drink her in. “You must be mad. Perhaps have a death wish.”
“I didn’t believe the stories. Obviously, it wasn’t my intention to fall into the hands of that…that thing.” Harper’s voice trembled as she spoke, her words laden with a mix of awe and uncertainty. “Who the hell are you, anyway? Why’d you even bother to kill that thing?”
The woman’s eyes shimmered with a knowing glimmer, her lips pulling into a taunting smirk. “My name’s Aurora, for your information.” Gesturing behind her toward the corpse, she drew Harper’s attention with her actions. “I’m bound to this forest as its protector. You shouldn’t be here. That’s why I killed it. Besides, ogres are repulsive, no matter how much the forests needs them for its survival.”
