Your Sneak Peek: (Get Ready for the Tension) 🔥
And then—those eyes.
She turned, her gaze locking onto Harper like a predator that had just decided it was done playing with its food.
"Strip," she commanded.
One word.
Low. Firm. Expectant.
Harper felt her entire body ignite, heat curling in her belly, a shiver not from the cold but from the weight of that gaze.
A sane person would have refused. A smart person would have demanded an explanation.
Instead, Harper just stood there, like an idiot, her ruined dress clinging to her soaked skin, her body caught between fight and flight and something far more reckless.
Aurora’s gaze burned through her, dragging over her still-clothed form with the kind of patience that made Harper feel weak in the knees.
“Do you enjoy suffering?” she asked, voice slow, taunting. Testing. "Or do you just enjoy testing my patience?"
Harper’s pulse pounded in her ears.
She had no answer.
So instead, with shaking fingers, she reached for the frayed edges of her dress—and began to peel it away. It clung stubbornly to her skin, but with a sharp inhale, she let it fall to the floor.
The warm air kissed her bare skin, teasing her already oversensitive nerves. Another shiver shot through her body, though not from the cold this time.
Her arms instinctively moved up to cover her chest, her fingers curling around her own shoulders. But it didn’t matter.
Aurora was watching her.
Everywhere.
Not just her eyes—no, her presence consumed Harper, surrounding her, pressing into her, making her hyperaware of every inch of her own exposed skin.
Harper’s breath hitched as she stepped into the water, warmth licking up her thighs, wrapping around her waist, rising just below her breasts.
The moment she reached her, Aurora moved.
With a sharp, unwavering grip, she caught Harper’s wrists, pulling them away from her chest, pushing them down to her sides.
Harper gasped softly, her pulse hammering beneath the weight of Aurora’s hands, of the effortless dominance in her touch.
Yet it wasn’t harsh. It wasn’t cruel.
It was measured.
Calculated.
A test.
Her fingers didn’t tighten, didn’t force Harper into submission. But her meaning was clear.
Don’t hide from me.
Harper’s lips parted, her breath ragged, but she couldn’t look away.
Neither could Aurora.
Her eyes remained locked onto Harper’s, unrelenting, burning straight through her, but she felt her everywhere.
The way her fingers traced down the inside of her wrists, gliding along the length of her forearms, featherlight but deliberate.
The slow drag of fingertips over the curve of her hip, the slight graze of nails against her thigh.
It was intoxicating.
Harper’s head swam, her body no longer her own.
She felt exposed, seen in a way she never had before.
And gods help her, she didn’t hate it.
Harper’s breath came slow, steady, though her pulse was anything but. The warm water lapped at their skin, the firelight flickering against the cavern walls, illuminating every scar, every ridge of muscle, every moment Aurora remained close enough to feel.
