Do you love or hate fated mates in books with shifters? (Or therians?)

Fated mates - the idea that shifters or in Sophia's world therians - have a person that they are destined to be with.

Often, they know the person is the one at first sight — or first scent. It hearkens back to true love, maybe to Romeo and Juliet and star crossed lovers. Quite often, this true love in books includes people who seemingly have no business dating, but who are meant to be together, even if it breaks them and their families. Or it forces them to confront their flaws and grow into who they are meant to be and for their families to let go of prejudices and grudges. 

Some readers can't get enough of fated mates stories, and some readers absolutely hate them. Which are you? What do you love about fated mates? What do you hate about fated mates?

In Sophia's world, the concept of fated mates exists. 

Detective Schmidt believes in it wholeheartedly, but his own sister and ex-girlfriend think the idea of fated mates is nothing but a fairy tale.

Sophia's mom and dad were supposedly fated mates, but death took her father well before her mother. 

In Capitol Kidnap, Naomi's mom clearly isn't into the idea of fated mates. She wants her daughter to pick a mate sooner rather than later and stop running around away from the pack (spoiler alert, Naomi's mom does not get her way). 

In fiction, I like the idea, but in real life, I like the idea that we have control of our own fate and our own destiny. 

True love — fated mates — whatever it may be, I think takes work. It takes work to make a relationship work with kids, and all the challenges of daily life. Whether or not it's destiny, in the end, doesn't matter. So much as the energy you bring to your relationship. If you start hating on everything your partner does, then that relationship cannot last. No matter if destiny was involved or not.
