Issue # 04 \\ Use Passwords Better

Jul 12, 2020 11:52 am

Hey Friends,

Last week I introduced you to 'Digital Balance' the new philosophy I am currently working on which challenges us to reconsider how we use technology. This week I have been working hard to put some 'flesh on the bones' and have produced a pdf which summarises the main ideas and components.

As always, I would like to share this with you all. You can download it here and if you have any thoughts, questions or suggestions please reply direct to this email.

As promised, I have also created a short survey (less than 60 seconds) to find out how we all currently use and manage our passwords. Please answer honestly, and state what you actually do, not what you think you should do. No personal information is collected or shared.

The survey will be live until Saturday (18th) and my aim is to share the results in next week's edition of this newsletter. From these results, I will then provide some advice and strategies about how to use passwords better, depending on your individual risk, skill level, and time availability.

Stay balanced, be blessed.

Chris

Things I've found interesting this week

\\ One Article If you use an Android device and have, or may, install a contact tracing app in the future, make sure to read this first. A number of fake COVID-19 contact tracing apps have appeared, so be careful.

\\ Two Article Provides some practical tips about how to manage our digital footprints. Although it's aimed at students, it has some good advice we can all adopt.

Favourite Quote

Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different that saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say - Edward Snowden

This is easily the most common reason people give me for not caring about privacy "I have nothing to hide". I'm still working on a compelling argument to persuade them otherwise, but this is a good start.
