Issue # 07 \\ 2FA or not 2FA, that is the question
Aug 03, 2020 1:51 pm
Hey Friends,
Thanks to everyone who completed the survey about web browsers I shared in my last email. The results were interesting, although in line with what I expected. I will be sharing some thoughts and advice this week, but for now here are the key take aways.
- 86% (+) of people use Google Chrome for web browsing
- 54% of people say they use the same web browser on all their devices
- 40% of people do not sync their data (browsing history, bookmarks etc) across all their devices
- 53% (+) of people allow their browser to save their passwords for websites they visit
- 100% of people use a browser which blocks pop-ups or adverts
From the results, it's clear that there is a heavy reliance on Google for web browsing, and also saving data (syncing and password storage). This is not a surprise, but is a perfect example of the kind of area which would benefit from some refining, to improve digital balance. Remember, the philosophy I am sharing is not necessarily about eliminating all technologies, but rather refining some of their use so they:
continue to support the goals and activities you want to pursue but minimise your exposure to risk and unhealthy relationships with technology
Thankfully, for web browsing, this is easily rectified and my recommendations this week will address this issue (watch out for the article on my website).
Hopefully, you have managed to read my previous article about creating secure passwords, and may even have attempted to setup a Password Manager. Remember, if you are subscribed to this mailing list you are part of my inner circle, and can reply to this email with questions. If you are not subscribed, you are missing out.
This week I published another article explaining how to use two-factor authentication to greatly increase your security. Simply put, if you implement the advice from these two articles for all your online interactions, you are going to drastically improve your digital security, and make yourself a much more difficult target for hackers. But don't stop there. I'm going to be sharing lot's more tips and advice, so if you stick around for the journey, you will learn how to achieve the right balance in your digital interactions.
Have a fantastic week!
Chris
