Founders Don't Let Admiration Stop You From Arriving Safely

Something’s not right.

Passengers are screaming. An extreme drop in altitude has violently awakened you. The plane jolts back and forth. Air masks drop from the overhead compartment, and you frantically attempt to put one over your face.

Someone is sitting in the aisle seat next to you.

He seems unphased. Actually, he looks relieved. But when you took off, the seat was empty. He takes a sip of what appears to be a rum and coke. He looks over, smiles, and then it hits you…

It’s the pilot. And he’s drunk.

He seemed like such a nice guy.

You noticed him when you first got onto the plane. As you made your way, from the gate, a slender fellow not much older than you was waiting on board. Standing next to the flight attendant, he smiled and said, “welcome aboard.”

The attendants aren't so friendly.

The attendant standing next to the pilot barely noticed you. When you asked for your seat, you got no answer. They were all too busy paying attention to what the pilot was doing.

The plane is a filthy mess.

When you tried to put your luggage in the overhead compartment, there was no room. There wasn’t even any luggage. The bin had been stuffed with garbage, likely from the last flight.

Founders can easily find themselves in this situation.

Too much attention from your team can leave you drunk on power. If your team is too busy catering to you, they cannot properly manage the business. And before you know it, the plane is already going down.

You can avoid this situation.

By ensuring everyone is in the right place doing the job, they were hired to do. It's great to be admired. But you need leaders, not followers. Someone has to clean the cabin and serve the passengers rather than serve your drinks and listen to your stories.

Don't Forget.

It’s your job to fly the plane so that you and everyone else can arrive safely at the destination.

All the best,
