The reason we stay stuck longer than we should

82℉ and sunny, Gilbert, AZ

Have you ever had a problem you’ve tried to solve for hours…

Then days…

Then weeks…

And the harder you think about it, the more stuck you feel?

I have.

More times than I’d like to admit.

When I get into those ruts, something predictable happens.

I overthink.

I procrastinate.

I worry.

And eventually… I freeze.

Not because I don’t know what to do.

But because I’m so focused on the problem, I lose my ability to move.

That’s been one of my biggest stumbling blocks in life.

I try to force an outcome.

I push harder.

I think more.

And nothing changes.

Eventually, I’ve learned to stop and ask a better question:

Why am I stuck right now?

The honest answer is almost always the same.

My focus is in the wrong place.

When I’m stuck, my mind is locked on what’s wrong, what’s missing, or what hasn’t worked yet. And whatever we focus on… grows.

So when I feel that happening, I shift my state on purpose.

The first thing I do is move myself into gratitude.

Not mentally.

Physically.

Every morning I write down at least three things I’m grateful for. Then I slow down and actually feel them. I visualize them. I remember why they matter.

That simple act calms my nervous system and gives my mind somewhere better to go.

Then I focus on my goals.

I read or listen to my January Letter.

That’s a letter I wrote to myself describing the life I want to be living by January 1st of the upcoming year, my health, relationships, finances, purpose.

As I listen, I don’t just read the words.

I imagine what it looks like.

What it feels like.

Who I’ve become.

Some people call this mindset work.

Some call it visualization.

Some call it the law of attraction.

I don’t care what you call it.

I just know it works.

It resets the GPS in my head and points my energy toward a clear direction instead of a spinning problem.

Here’s a simple way to think about it.

When I was a kid riding my BMX bike, I remember staring straight at a telephone pole thinking, “Don’t hit it. Don’t hit it.”

Guess what happened.

I hit the pole.

Not because I wanted to…

But because that’s what I was focused on.

The moment you focus on what you don’t want, you unknowingly steer toward it.

The moment you focus on where you do want to go, everything changes.

That insight became the foundation of what I now call The Simmons Solution.

It’s a simple framework for getting unstuck by changing what you focus on, how you think, and how you move forward with intention instead of force.

I put it all into a simple mind map, and I want to give it to you for free.

P.S. You don’t need to eliminate problems to move forward. You just need a clearer place to aim.
