Hello, Favoured Forest Dweller,
I'm a sucker for the single dad trope.
Which is kind of funny, because when I first played The Sims and my couple had a baby, I ended up stress-quitting the game after a rough hour of keeping baby happy. shudders
My kids were in primary school at the time, so I'd been there and done all that in real-time. Yet, here I was, stressing out over a virtual baby when all I wanted was to relax and have some fun.
Those same feelings piped up whenever a book blurb mentioned kids, so I skipped them. Which, looking back, is probably why it took me until the third book of the Forester Triad to give children a bigger role (despite Ianys being a single dad).
Anyway, before I start rambling about my impulsive book-buying-habits, once I stumbled into a single dad book, there was no stress, and no urge to throw the book against the wall. Turns out, reading the shenanigans of single dads and their cute, often precocious, and opinionated kids is actually fun, and very endearing.
As for The Sims, I started a fresh game, and never allowed my sims to have kids again.
ππ» Question of the week:
Do you love single dads, too? Or is there a trope you used to avoid, yet, now can't get enough of? Feel free to reply. I'd love to read about your favourite tropes.
