There’s nowhere to get to. There is no utopia which will make everyone happy. Even if there was such a promised land, there is more than one way to get there.

Evolution doesn’t have a goal in mind, it responds to the now and unfolds. Look at a hummingbird or a flower, or a patch of slime mold, for that matter. These life forms don’t require an architect or divine planner, life develops from a response to how things are and is never the same for any two individuals, nor it always is the same for a single individual in all environments.

Just counting humans, there are approximately 8 billion ways to evolve. Let us honor and respect that diversity and learn to trust it. A million years from now, the deplorable with whom you disagree may turn out to have been the seed who came to Earth and plant blossoms that led to a thousand years of peace. We honor that possibility as we seek to explore other points of view.
