What happens if you don’t pay your energy bill

The latest predictions for the price cap increases in October and in January are scary - potentially as high as £4,200 a year.

This will likely mean many can't afford to pay. Meanwhile there's a campaign asking us to collectively not pay in protest. Should you join in? Here's what can happen if you don't pay.

Interest rate at 1.75%: what does the rise mean for you?

Last week saw the largest single increase to the base rate in 27 years as the rate jumped to 1.75%. This will have an impact on your savings and borrowing. Find out how.

John Lewis credit cards to close in October

If you have the John Lewis Partnership card it'll stop working in a few months when it's closed. Though there will be a new card released, you'll have to apply for that from scratch if you want it. Find out what this means for your spending, points earned and your credit report.

Have you still got any old banknotes and coins?

In less than eight weeks you won't be able to spend old style paper £10 and £20 notes in the shop. But you don't necessarily need to rush out and use them as you can swap them, as well as old £1 coins, for the new versions. Here's how.

THIS WEEK'S TOP DEALS

I only share deals and special offers on the blog which I think are really good value. Click the titles or links for more information.

I'll also share a quick update on Instagram on Saturday morning.

1. Santander: 4% cashback on bills in September & October

If you pay for your energy bill by Direct Debit via the Santander 123 Lite account you'll normally get 2%. Well that will double for two months. Factor in the new £160 switch bonus and this is the best time to open the account if you don't already have it. Here's my review.

2. Netflix, NOW & Freeview: £9p/v via BT

BT Broadband customers can add on BT TV for two years at £9 a month. For this amount, you'll get a Freeview recording box worth £250 and subscriptions to Netflix (£5.99 p/m) and NOW Entertainment (£9.99 p/m).

It's a decent price just for the box if you're looking to ditch Sky or Virgin TV. But you do need to factor in whether you can get the broadband for less elsewhere. Here's more.

3. Spirit & mixer: Four cans for £2 stack

Combine a multibuy offer from Tesco and cashback from Shopmium to get four tins of gin, vodka, rum and Pimms at 50p each. Here's more.

4. Zopa: 1.81% easy-access savings

Rates are moving up again, and now Zopa offers the top-paying easy-access account. There are also ways to boost this further in short-term notice accounts. The limit has also been increased to £85,000. More here.

5. Mubi: £1 for three months

Indie and world movie streaming site is offering three months for £1. Here's more.

6. Co-op: £3 off £10

If you're new to Co-op's membership scheme (cost £1) you'll be able to get £3 off a £10 spend, along with weekly coupons. More here.

7. Airtime Rewards: £2 bonus

Add a promo code and spend £8 by the end of today via a connected card to get a £2 bonus. More here.
