Log Store Idea

Hey friends,

Good news, the plumber concurred with the idea of the shower pump so I'm now waiting on a quote and start date. Once confirmed we can move the boy...somewhere, I'm not sure where, and I can start taking things apart ready for the pipes to go in.

This is the layout we've settled on. Nice as would be to have a separate walk-in shower, we need a bath and having some empty space in the bathroom is probably better than cramming in both. On the left, that's the party wall and there are rules around chasing it out so better to lose a bit of space with a stud wall, have the pipes for the shower run behind and then take advantage of it to put in some shower niches above the bath and recess the bathroom cabinet above the sink.

To sum up, it's been another slow week on the DIY front so today's newsletter is on the lighter side.

🪵 Log Store Idea

A video I have in the works requires metal sheeting designed in Sketchup which has also given me the chance to sketch out an idea I've been mulling over for a while. For those who store and season firewood I'm interested in what you think of it.

At the rear of the external garage are some pretty decrepit timber doors. The bottoms are all rotted and difficult to salvage. These face the double gates I made through which there is vehicular access into the woods and back to the road.

As I have no plans to ever store a car in the garage replacing the doors feels a bit pointless. Instead I could remove them and put up a stud wall set back and cover it externally with the metal sheeting I have left over from doing the roof. It's a bit rough but you get the gist:

There wouldn't be much space lost internally and on the outside I could store wood for the chiminea and future wood burning stove, keeping it out of the rain.

To take it a step further I could install a shelf at the top for kindling and maybe two vertical dividers below so I'd have 3 sections - each a year's supply of wood while the other two sections are given time to season.

There are other locations I could build a wood store but this feels like a neat solution to kill two birds with one stone.

What do you think?

👋

It's a bit dreary outside at this time of year so I thought I'd bring a bit of cheer with the first signs of spring around our garden:

We think the boy will soon be taking his first steps so sadly the pond will have the be filled in for his safety. I'll wait for the froggies to have done their thing first though.
