Adam’s World Weekly 2/23
As many of you know, presently my life is the equivalent of riding a roller coaster while blindfolded, and this past week I experienced all the extremes.
On Wednesday my dad was finally moved from the hospital back to the rehab facility. I was thrilled that after multiple weeks, and more bad side effects than I could count, we were ready to get back to getting him well. In fact, I was so thrilled I bought a ticket to see my friends Turbo Goth in the city for the following night.
Then Thursday morning came, and a call from rehab saying my dad had spiked a fever, and had to go to the ER immediately.
Of course, I was there with him, for four long hours, as he received test after test to figure out what was going on.
Now, if you need an example of how often I’ve done this dance over the past nine months, a nurse in the ER said, “Hi Adam,” and I wasn’t wearing a name tag. Also, a doctor walked into the room, and addressed me as “doctor” before realizing I was just someone he saw all the time that understood most of what he was saying.
My dad was readmitted to the hospital, and I was bummed by the entire situation, figuring my trip to the city was no more, and I’d just eat the small cost of the ticket.
The universe, however, wouldn’t allow that. Every doctor, and nurse, as well as my case worker, and my therapist, all said the same thing – he’s in good hands, you can’t do anything more here, do something for yourself. Go. Go in. Have a good time.
I listened to them, and I’m glad I did, because not only did I see some friends I didn’t expect to see, and not only was the music great, but I had a random celebrity encounter. Stephen Colbert was in the house! I’m happy to (Colbert) report he’s incredibly nice, and I have a photo with him to prove it.

In blog news, this week’s update is led off by my interview with Melissa Schainker. She’s the frontwoman of the punk rock band Angel Grit, as well as a fine artist whose paintings have been shown in galleries around the world, and to top it all off she’s a full-time mom raising two kids in NYC. An incredible woman, and a great interview.
In addition to that feature I also have fresh editions of Pop Shots, and my NYC Scene Report for you to check out.
