Adam’s World Weekly 2/2 – An Unexpected Reunion

Adam’s World Weekly for 2/2
This past Wednesday I was at StageOne in Fairfield, CT to see Brad Fischetti present The LFO Story. As you may recall, I interviewed Fischetti, the lone surviving member of LFO, a few weeks ago, and I was really looking forward to what he described as a part Storytellers, part band history, part personal history show.
Arriving early, as always, I grabbed a beer, and was texting a friend about the insane ratio filling up the venue – I think I was one of only four guys, and the other three came with their wives – when I heard a voice ask where I got my drink. Looking up, we immediately had a huge, eyes wide open, can’t believe who I’m looking at, moment. It was a friend of mine from middle school, and we hadn’t seen each other in person since 1992 (we recognized each other thanks to being Facebook friends).
We started chatting, and it turns out he was playing guitar for the opening act, which was two members of the ‘00s tween boy band Dream Street.
You never know where you might have a middle school reunion. I happened to have one at an LFO show.

After taking a few nights to recover from the late night out (man I’m old), on Saturday I braved sub-freezing temperatures to see two friends’ bands that were part of a three band bill at Baker Falls in NYC (formerly Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2).
The evening was one of The Ritualists’ Glamorpuss events, and featured them (who I’ve known for years), as well as Angel Grit (who I met around a year ago), and Georgi Freddy (who I met that night), with drag queen Georgie Gurl hosting, and being joined by Stevie Nicks cover artist MaryAnne Piccolo.

While at the show I bumped into a Facebook friend in real life, which was awesome, and hugs were exchanged.
Sometimes I wonder about the choices I’ve made in life, but as I was half asleep on the train home, I thought – man, if I’m hanging out with my arts community friends, and we’re all supporting each other, and a random drag queen is involved, I think I’ve chosen a pretty interesting path.
Speaking of interesting paths (and seamless transitions), leading off this week’s update is my latest One Hit Wondering column, which is on Rockwell, who took an interesting path to fame. In 1983 he felt somebody was watching him, and while he could’ve leveraged his family name, and the name of his world famous guest vocalist, he chose to make both anonymous as long as possible. My deep dive tells his story, and spins the album to find three songs other than “Somebody’s Watching Me” that you should hear.
In addition to that feature, I also have fresh editions of Pop Shots, and my NYC Scene Report for you to check out.

As always, thanks for reading, and have a fantastic week!
